Show Like n Luck Vttend Parents t lilHWi Teachers Meeting At USAC Friday The annual convention of the Utah Congress of Parents and Teachers, held in Logan, Friday, June 2, at the Utah State college, was well at- !.rdeduby, the Lincoln and school P. T. A. officers, according to officials of the groups. Those from the Lincoln school A;T- - - who registered, attended the afternoon sessions and the banquet the same evening were; Ida Shirts, president Reeves, vice president; Everton, secretary and Eta Moskowitz, publicity chairman. Attending all or some of the meeting from the Central school P.-A. were Mrs. J. Oleen Palmer, president; Mrs. Floyd vice Mrs. president; Glen Knudsen, secretary; Mrs. Charles Claybaugh, chairman of the program committee, and Mrs. Steven Bunnell, program committee. Mrs. Walter Jaggi, membership committee; - Mrs. Yanez Wilson, hospitality committee; Mrs. Harold Arban, hospitality committee; Mrs. Max Morgan and Mrs. William Long, publicity committee; (Mrs. Grace Davis, safety committee and Mrs. Hazel Packer, chairrpan of room mothers. Also in attendance were Chloe Sheffield and Eva Valentine, P.-A. council officers. Receiving special honors at the evening banquet was Mrs. Glen Humpherys, who was given a superior award for aehive-ment- s during last year. Mrs. Humpherys was president of the Central school P.-A. last year. Mrs. John E. Hayes, vocational president, addressed the opening session. She stressed the fact that evety child needs love and understanding parents, and that the communities should awaken to this fact. She cited juvenile detention homes and jails as indicative of the peoples failure to cope with the problems of childhood. Continuing, Mrs. Hayes said, every child born Into the world today holds the potentialities of becoming a useful, happy citizen, able to accept responsibilities for himself and to enhance the environment of his fellows. Some 30 boys from the states comprising the region, Califor-niaUtah, Nevada, Wyoming, Idaho and Hawaii, attended the intensive- - draining -- eauise held at the Weber college pool and at Pineview reservoir. Courses covered canoeing, boating, swim Comple ming and tion of the course earned merit badges In each of these activities, as wel las qualifying for Boy Scout life guard. Eleven of those attending the school, including Richards, re ceived the emblem in recogni tion of proficiency in each of the four skills. Lynn, 19 years old, is a son of Mr .and Mrs. Sam Richards of 456 south Second east, and is an Eagle scout. He was graduated from Box Elder high school this spring. Lowell Petersen Is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Petersen of 1'29 south First east, and will be a senior In Box Elder high school next fall. He is a Life scout, and is 17 years old.
