Show Sixth Ward Brigham City, Utah Side-Line- s January 5, yieivd-Journc- . Mason. Sports Editor Box Elder l Brigham, Utah Dear Mr. Mason: Perhaps you will think that I am a eraek-po- t for writing this letter but I am going to write it anyway. I am writing this letter in an effort to place pressure upon our mutual friend Harvey Ward-roso that he will be more or less drafted to again manage the Brigham American Legion junior baseball team again next year. I think that Harvey has done a wonderful job with our kids, in teaching tiiern to play good smart baseball and in developing good sportsmanship. No one knows better than J about the time Harvey has devoted to our kids and the money he himself has spent to put over a good program. Not only has he spent much of his free time and money but he has developed two very fine baseball teams in the two years that he has been here in Brigham. I am proud of my town and I like to see winning teams in arty and all I firmly believe that sports. Harvey could develop another and championship winning team if he would only accept the job for another year. I have Lebeen following American gion junior baseball teams here in Brigham for many years and I honestly feel that Harvey has done more for this fine program than has any other manager or coach. I am not a parent and Im not a member of the American Legion. Im just a good booster of Brigham athletic teams. I know that Harvey announced several months ago, at a banquet, that he was through. However I notice where he now has a helper at the recruiting office and I believe that if t enough pressure was placed upon him that he would change his mind. Consequently I am asking you to this in your column as an open letter to Harvey with the request, from you, that he also answer the letter, as an open letter to me and the parents of the kids and all sports minded people In this town. A Brigham Sports Booster. T M. News-Journa- By "Mace" There seems to be a slight misunderstanding as to the basketball rules this year. The kids at the high school gym yell for the players to shoot as the time runs out at the end of each . p quarter. Tiie misunderstanding is this; at the end of the first and third quarters a team doesnt shoot unless they set up a good shot, because that team still keeps possession of the ball to start the next quarter. As the time runs out in the first half though a long desperation shot is in order because to start the second half the ball moves back to the center jump circle. This also applies to an overtime period in the case of a tie. Keith Nuttall fought Velez in Spokane, Wash., recently and lost a decision. The Spokane paper received considerable criticism of their article covering the fight as the fans seemed to mlsinterprete it as being onesided in favor of Velez, the home town, boy. To try and right this wrong, the paper printed th? following apology: If our story of the night of the fight with Joe Velez indicated that we think Nuttall isnt much of a fighter, we apologize. In our estimation the Brigham City kid is the greatest fighter we have ever seen, and could very welljbb a future champion if hanqled right. We think hes being pushed a little too hard but .that's his managers business This was written in the column by Danny May called Maybe So A by the name of from Los Angeles saw fighter r, the fight and said that Keith won every round in his estimation To back up this opinion, Escabar turned down the opportunity to fight Keith in Hollywood last December 30. The bout would have been the headline attraction and undoubtedly would have netted a nice little purse, but then Escabar must know that money Isn't well-mean- e R. Lyons played havoc with Meanies legs with his leg strangle and Floyd didnt like it a bit. For that reason he will be on the move to get even and make the evening miserable for Lyons anyway he can. The match Is slated for two out of three falls with a one hour time limit.
