NEWS-JOURNA- 1 Fifth Ward Relief Society To tlonor Former Leaders Tuesday Service Sunday In Observance Of Lent Services of the Grace Lutheran congregation will be held Sunday evening in the War Memorial home, Sunday school at 7 o'clock and Divine worship ' at 8 oclock, according to the announcement today by the Reverend Clemens E. Harms, pastor. In observance of Lent, the topic of this Sundays sermon will be Judas, the Apostle Turned Traitor. The word Lent is of Anglo-Saxosignifies origin, and spring, referring to the lengthening of days. In the Christian sense it is that season of the year whieh has been set apart for the special consideration of our Saviors passion. It comprises the 46 days preceding Easter, and, is itself introduced by the three Sundays which precede Ash Wednesday. The observance of Lent goes back far into antiquity, The duration of the penitential season was at first not definitely settled. Two birthdays will be celebrated March 12. One is the twenty-fiftanniversary of the Fifth organization and the other is the 104th birthday of the Relief society in the Latter-DaSaints church. A special program has been arranged in honor of the first Relief Society presidency of the Filth ward, the class leaders and visiting teachers. The first presidency includes Celia Alice Mifflin, president; Laacson, first counselor; Fishburn, second counselor; and Lillie Secrist, secretary. Mrs. Secrist is now a Second ward member and is the only one of the presidency noi residing in the Fifth ward. Five class leaders from the original class leaders will also be honored: Annie II. Valentine, Josephine Knudsen. Effie Jensen, Clara Christensen, and Maria E. Fawson. Mrs. Jensen now resides in Salt Lake City and Mrs. Fawson is a member of the Second ward. The list of visiting teachers includes Martha T. Jensen, Eliza J. Stokes, Annie E. Anderson, Lillie Hansen, Agnes Ipson, Margaret Priest, Emmahne Rice, Annie Christensen of Salt Lake City, Amelia Petersen and Mat-tiWhalin of Ogden. h By ln lhe morning at the label nude.
