Show ANTI-POLYGAM- to marry a polygamist, and she replied, when we came here, mother and I were invited to this house until we could find another home. The old man must have made up his mind immediately that he would have me, for if any gentlemen came to the house they were not alloAved to see me, and he took good care that I should have no chance to marry any one else. When he told his wife that lie had concluded to take another, she said it would break her heart, and he replied, that it would have to break then, for I am going to live my religion. I knew another man in San Pete, who lived in a dug out, and had three waves, and their manner of living is beyond the power of a modest pen to describe. And then they talk of the depravity of Gentiles! If these latter do what is wrong, they have the decency to conceal it, and not flaunt it in the faces of the women whom they have wronged. Hut I have written you enough for one letter. 1 have loaned the Standards around here, but people can scarcely' credit that the Mormons are so wicked and depraved in the practice of polygamy", and they can not understand why the Saints are allowed to go free while in other places people are punished severely for committing like crimes. Ever your friend and well wisher, tom'jjjmutinicq. Interesting Letter from Oregon. Dear Standard: Please excuse my seeming indifference in not renewing my subscription for the Standard before this; but I left Utah last spring and have been rambling around since then until now, when I have settled in Oregon. We have been trying for years to get out of Utah, and come among decent people, where we could bring up our family away from Mormon influences and corruption. I had a letter the other day from a Mormon, who told me if I could not retrace my steps back to the Mormon Church, at least to let them alone, lest I might find out I had been reviling the people of Jehovah, foe, by so doing I could neither gain money, influence, or true friends. But I do not care for the friendship of people who commit the grossest crimes in the name of God and religion, and boldlv de- clare that these iniquities are sanctioned by Heaven, and the perpetrators are Jehovahs people! Is it any wonder that there are so many infidels among those who leave the Mormon Church when they have seen so many atrocities committed in the name of God ? Their cry has always been let us alone, but their eyes are wide open to the defects of the Gentiles, whom they are not willing to let alone. When I was living in San Pete, a Gentile, a stranger, came along, but he could not find a Mormon in the settlement who would give him board or lodging. At last, a kind hearted woman gave him his supper, and also told him that he could spread his blanket on the floor by the fire, and remain there that night. She had grown up sons and daugh-ters in the house, who did not ob-- ! ject to their mother being hospitable to a forlorn stranger, but when the Mormons heard of it a rude mob proceeded to the house, carried the poor woman by brute force to the big creek which ran near, and held her under the water until they thought she had sufficiently atoned for the crime of sheltering a wicked i , 1 II. At last the daughter became so ashamed of her mother, and felt so degraded herself that she determined she would not endure the dreadful life any longer, no matter what the consequences might be, so she told her husband that he must choose between them, which he did. He discarded the mother, took the daughter, and left for California, where they now are. After we arrived in Utah, she went one way, and I another, and we did not happen to meet again for some years, when I came to the settlement where she lived, I went to see her at once.
