Surface mining in that locality has been a success. There is every reason to believe that deep min-- 1 ing will prove equally profitable. The roots of deep mines, reach deeper than ever plummet sounded. The vast areas of mineral already explored from the grass roots down 800 feet n this remarkable district, furnish the best evidence of enduring mines. The history of deep mining, with hardly an exception, establishes the fact that pyrites at water level indicates good ore below. Hence the old time cay-in- g of practical miners: Mundic rides a good horse. With rare exceptions, the mines of Utah have been developed thus far by men with comparatively little capital. The ease with which our ores can be worked, makes Utah the paradise of miners with limited means. The necessity for expensive machinery and large capital, coupled with the difficulty of reaching capitalists and organizing necessary combinations causes a stoppage of operations at certain depths and men and mines lie idle for want of money that rusts from disuse in eastern and foreign markets. Here and there, as in the Ontario, Horn Silver, Jordan and Great Basin mines, the requisite capital, combined w th judicious management is brought to bear, and deep mining produces large and permanent returns on the investment. With the subsidence of the Tidal Wave of speculation which has lately swept over Colorado and the Black Hills, leaving many wrecks behind, there will come careful, legitimate in vestment in mining enterprises and in this direction, Utah offers unusual at action. Scores and hundreds of her mines wait the advent of men and means to become dividend paying mines, rivaling those whose names are now household words on account of their ample, continuous profits. Deep mining will acomplish the financial salvation of Utah. Her unrivaled climate, inexhaustable mines, fertile valleys and thriving cities, invite le. gitimate, generous investments with sure promise of large and enduring returns. Exchange.
