The company is selling these animals to anyonn who may want them at $200 per head and allowing them to go to the island and kill them. The action of the company has created a great sensation in all parts of the civilised world. Sportsmen are writing and telegraphing for reservation of animals, and fiirator of museums are asking for animals in bunches. At this time requests for about fifty animals hare been received from points as far east as Kansas and Iowa. At the same time protests against the slaughtering of the animals are pouring in through the press and by letter. A jay who resides in an apartment in Jay street, Boston, and who signs his name as Russell, has written John W. Thornley, president of the company, a protest which is a gem of contemptible condemnation. It is a letter that a wise man would only write to a cow man 'at long range, a fact which was doubtless taken into consideration by the jay, who is, perhaps, of witch burning ancestry, and proud of it Various schemes are advanced to save the herd of buffslo. among which is one by the Order of Elks, with a proposition to hsve the members of the order purchase the island with its herd of buffalo and make it a wild game sanctuary. This proposition is the most sensible which has been advanced and it is hoped it may go through. A man at Nashville, Tenn., has wired for a price on the island and the herd, but does not state what he proposes to do with the animals or the property. It is hoped that some plan may be found to save the herd after the old bulls have been thinned out, and add other wild animals native of this region. In the meanwhile, the only people who have put up g. dollar are those keen for heads and hides. Most all other people are principally interested in spending other people's money. Live Stock Facts SHARP TUSKS v greater advantages because of the greater population." The lumbermen have expressed themselves by announcing prices for their material lower than the market, and which cannot possibly be maintained permanently." Plasterers to Help II. A. Shupe, one of the leading plasterers of the city, voiced the opinion that the boss plasterers would be in line with the proposed scheme for lowering building costs. He stated CARING FOR WEANING LAMBS that the plasterers of the city were preparing to keep with the downward If to Be Kept for Breeding Purposes trend and were willing to stand a loss They Should Be Put in Good, of from 15 to 20 per cent, rather than Freeh Pasture. act as an obstruction to the wheels of progress Ogden Standard.
