Creek Irrigation company, and through the courtesy of Senator John V. Thornley with his fine roadster team, .John G. M. Barees ofKaysvilleaml - W. P. Epperson of The Reflex, visited the newly completed Snow Creek reservoir of the irrigation company.. After a pleasant drive along the State road and up through the tine country to the east und northeast of Layton, the Snow Creek reservoir was "reached. This reservoir, which is located south of the home of Andrew Adams, is constructed on the the . site of a small reservoir which was built severs! years ago, and has a capacity of 800 acre-feof water without the use of flash boards In Jhe waste wier. The dam, an earth fill structure, is pro, vided with a gravel core, by which seepage will be eliminated, is 45 feet high and 800 feet long. A feature of this dam is the outlet valve which will be operated by a steel cable passing around a sheave attached to a shaft on which is placed a bevel gearwhich will operute the gate valve through which water will be discharged from the reservoir. This appliance .is original with Contractor Thompson of the Thompson Construction company and Civil Engineer Parker. The new appliance seems to many improvements over the pipe system of valve control now in general sheet piling are being driven with a pile driver for the purpose of shutting off seepage water and an embankment is being.. made to force the water through the distharge pipe line which is some distance above the bottijm of the reservoir. When completed this dam will be HI feet high, 520 feet wide at the base und 4,U .Joet nfoTig"tIie ciest fionr imrtoJull. peeuiiat tty about the construction of this dam is tie fact that the .iil will be almost eiurrely hydrauliced and washed in place. On either side (of the reservoir site ditches have been constructed to supply water for the hydraulic giants with which it is proposed to tear(down the hillsides and wash the earth into the body of the dam. From these ditches spiral riveted pipe will lead the water to the giants which are so constructed that the nozzles may be directed to any point of the. compass. After the dirt is washed down it will be carried to the dam through steed flupies vvhih will be shifted from place to place as desired. A force of eight or ten men will only be necessary for the operation of the giants vhen the plant is fully installed, which will be in a short time.. Hydraulic operations will be carried on from time to time as water becomes available for the work, and it is probable that the irrigation company will do much of the work with its ' use. From the Snow Creek dam the par- own men after the initial operations ty proceeded to the site of another are completed.
