This limits the capacity of our condensed milk factories, payrolls and taxable wealth. The same applies to our other industries, particularly the sugar factories. We need stored water to apply to the lands on which crops suffer during the latter part of the season. It will stabilize the agricultural business of Cache valley and insure investment the farmers against a crop failure. To those who need and use additional water, ft is estimated that the extra pasturage gained in the fall, would be worth the $2.66 per acre, per year, to say nothing of the increased crops. With more water in July and August the increase in wheat would be from ten to twenty bushels per acre. Hay would be increased from one to two tons per acre. With an adequate and dependable water supply, beets, peas, beans and potatoes would all be increased. Perhaps other crops could be grown where they cannot be grown now. There is no question that the extra water would increase the yields sufficiently each year over-- what far'? being reived, under present conditions, to pay for the project and leave a good profit after paying for the extra labor in handling the extra crops. The farmers in the Preston district completed the Work Creek reservoir last spring so that they have been able to use stored water for late irrigation this summer. These farmers figure that the increase in crops to them, because of the additional water supply, has more than paid the interest on the bonds, and a large payment on the principal. This project was built on borrowed money on wnDh interest has to be paid. If these farmers feel this way over their project, where interest has to be paid, certainly the Hyrum irrigation project under the government plan, is one of the best that ran be offered because there is no interest to be paid. The Worm Creek reservoir now provides the farmers in the Preston district an adequate and dependable water supply. Due to the dry season this year the crops in Franklin county, under the Worm Creek reservoir, would not have matured without this stored water. The people of Cadie county cannot afford to pass up this opportunity when they can get such an adequate and dependable water supply, and especially on such terms as offered by the government. It is estimated that the project wilt cost $1,600,000. The iisercoir, when completed, will store 20,000 acre feet. When divided into the total cost it will be $80 per acre foot of water. This money will be furnished by the government without interest. The farmers will have thirty years in winch to pay the deat at the rate per year of $2.66 per acre foot of water purchased. The security for this money, according to the latest plan will be the water rights and canals ot the various irrigation companies affected. The land with a full water right will be worth considerably more than it is for dry farm puronly a part water poses right. A greater diversity of Crops be with assurance of can grown larger yields. It will provide homes for many more people. At it now is, much of the land to eome under the project, is unsuitable for family living. The recent government census of the towns of Cache county shows a decrease in population in This practically every settlement. can be attributed to a great extent to the lack of irrigation water for more intcnslve development of our r" lands: " Aside from the extra Irrigation water supplied by the project, it will be a splendid payroll for the people of Cache valley P during the construction of the reservoir and ranals. Practically $1,200,090 of the cost will remain in Cache county w 73 North Main St. J ? 5 ? J ' . - - LE17IST0H DEPARTMENT MRS. It will be a direct and indirect benefit to every person in the valley. Cache valley never needed an additional payroll or an opportunity for development more than right now. The project, extending the length of the valley will give the 'people in the different towns an opportunity for work, or in other words, earn their own money back, on which no interest will have to be paid. This is Cache countys big opportunity. Every person in Cache county should be keenly interested in the success of the Hy rum irrigation project and work for its accomplishment.
