Show Wednesday, June 25, 2003 Vernal Express Extension offers free lawn advice watering the recent of USU With ail talk drought and possible water restriction, many homeowners are worried about whether or not they can legally or morally keep their lawns green this summer. The good news is that they can and with much less water than they have probably used in the past. Dr. Earl Jackson of the Salt Lake County Utah State University Extension Office is again directing a program of free water checks for homeowners who request the help. By calling either or their county Extension Office, residents can arrange to have a water checker come to their home to examine their landscape and sprinkler system and give information and suggestions for a customized watering schedule. The service is provided free of charge by Central Utah Water District Conservancy through a contract with the USU Extension Service. Residents who would prefer to do their own water checks are invited to receive to call instructions and the printed material that is distributed with each formal water check. No fireworks at Flaming Gorge The Flaming Gorge Ranger District did not receive an application this year from any individual, business or agency for a special use permit to sponsor the July 4 fireworks. Due to this, there will not be any fireworks at Flaming Gorge Reservoir this year. As a public agency, the Forest Service evaluates all applications as they arrive. District Ranger Eileen Richmond said, We do not solicit agencies, businesses or individuals but need interested parties to submit on their own." Successful events rely on the support, enthusiasm and hard work of everyone working together and the agency is supportive of this permitted activity his family made, but they quickly adjusted to the local culture. The Uintah High School Band will present the color guard and the U.S. Air Force flyover will occur at 10 a.m. Mayor Bill Kremin will present the Grand Marshal plaque at 9:30 a.m. at the table set up on the Post Office By Virginia Harrington Vernal Express Writer Jay Kerlin, Exalted Ruler of the Vernal Elks, has been selected as the Grand Marshal of the 2003 Independence Day Parade. Kerlin was selected by the parade committee not only for his many services to the Vernal community but also for his service to the United States. Kerlin was in the U.S. Marines for more than 22 years, serving in Lebanon, Viet Nam, Japan, Peurto Rico and several areas of the U.S. Bom in Pennsylvania, Kerlin grew up in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He attended St. Peters Academy and entered the Marines immediately upon graduation. In 1968, Kerlin and his wife Yolanda, who died two years ago, drove through Utah on their way to a new assignment. At the time they both agreed that Utah is a beautiful state and it would be nice to live in the area. After his retirement from the that supports the local economy.
