If German Short Hairs arent your style, there are many other breeds of dogs as well as numerous kittens and cats in need of a good home. The Animal Shelter has a no fee fostering program which will help adopting families determine if they wish to keep the pet permanently. For those who choose to adopt from the shelter, Petfinder.com will provide two months free insurance through the PetCare Pet Insurance Program. Coverage includes things such as ear infections, motor vehicle accidents, defined poison ingestion and intestinal parasites. If you wish to foster or adopt one of these or another animal, or if your pet is missing, please call the shelter at 7 or visit them in their new building at 1387 E. 335 S. 30-da- y, 781-729- NASA Uintah High Teachers become students with help from School grad NASA will VERNAL, Utah bring outer space inside the classroom for a group of Utah teachers. Approximately 35 educators from the Uintah Basin will participate in a special Pathway to Mars workshop held June 2 through 4 at the Utah State University Extension Site in Vernal. Presented by the Rocky Mountain NASA Space Grant Consortium, this education workshop is designed to show teachers how the space program can be used to make classroom science lessons more exciting and less intimidating for students. NASA firmly believes that todays teachers are vital to devel Dr. Laura Arnold and Wesley Baden have established a new scholarship for current graduates of Uintah High School. The primary goal of the fund is to assist those persons who have demonstrated the desire, ability, and determination to complete an academic program at Colorado Northwestern Community College and who, without financial assistance, would be unable to do so. The scholarship will provide fulltime tuition up to $2,500 for two years. Grants are renewable for a second year upon successful completion of not less than 24 credit hours with a grade point average of at least 3.0. This years first recipient of the Dr. Laura Arnold and Wesley Baden Scholarship is Shamberlee Parker, daughter of Stuart and Tarie Parker. Shamberlee will be entering college at CNCC in the fall, 2003. She is a motivated young woman who plans to become a dental hygienist. She has been volunteering at a dental office four days a week and that experience has helped her understanding of the importance of dental hygiene. Northwestern Colorado Community College has an outstanding Dental Hygiene Program and has received over $200,000 in grants the past two years to purchase all new high-tec- h equipment for their patient clinic. Northwestern Colorado Community College is grateful to Dr, Laura Arnold and Wesley Baden for their generosity and commitment to the Uintah Basin and CNCC. Highlights of the workshop include using global positioning system receivers and attending hands-o- n presentations. Ed Galindo, Outstanding Native American Science Teacher, will speak to the group. Galindo, a teacher in Idaho, has helped his stu i, .& dents design four experiments that have flown on the space shuttle. Other presentations will be given concerning astronomy and space medicine. Participants will also attend a star party held June 3 from 8 until 9 p.m. At the party, educators will learn more about the stars as they look through a telescope and view the nighttime sky. The public is welcome at no charge.
