A reception will be held in their honor May 24, also at the Glines Chapel, 1510 West Hwy. 40, from 7 to 9 p.m. The bride is the daughter of Norman and Elaine Bernard of Vernal. She is a 2001 graduate of Uintah High School. The groom is the son of Wendy and Alan Owens of Vernal. He is currently serving in the United States Air Force. The couple plan to make their home in Colorado Springs, Colo. Dee Mardell Swain and Anne Maree Hatch, both of Vernal, issued May Stephanie Ann Mayberry and McCoy Kean Anderson have chosen May 24 to marry in the Vernal LDS Temple. A garden reception will be held in their honor that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mayberry home, 949 S. 2000 E. In case of inclement weather, the reception will be held at the Glines LDS Stake Center, 475 W. 100 S. The bride is the daughter of Shane and Erin Mayberry of Vernal. She is a 1999 graduate of Uintah High School and attended Marriage Licenses Melvin Gregory Foster and Amber Gwen Hughes Severe, both of Vernal, issued May 15. Mayberry and Anderson to marry in temple 16. Dixie State College. She is currentwith ly Mayberry employed Insurance. The groom is the son of Gary and Leah Anderson of Vemal. He is a 1998 graduate of Uintah High School and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints in Houston, Texas. He is currently attending Utah State University Uintah Basin. The couple plan to make their home in Vemal. Three members of the Jubilee Relay4Life team rallied to put together the successful sale. She is a 2000 graduate of Davis High School and a 2002 graduate of Snow College. She is currently attending Weber State University. The groom is the son of Joe and Dianne Batty of Vemal. He is a 1999 graduate of Uintah High School and is attending Utah State University Uintah Basin. He served mission for the Church a two-yeSaints of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y in the Canada Winnepcg Mission and he is currently employed with Pelican Lake Farms. ar The couple plan to make their home in Vernal. Prominent former Vemal businessman, Ralph L. Ashton, Sr., was recently presented with a distinguished Alumni Award by Wasatch Academy, where he graduated with the class of 1940. This annual award is given to alumni who have shown exemplary contributions in community service, business and civic affairs; a commitment to the values and ideals of the academy; and outstanding accomplishments in a professional capacity. In 1943, Ashton interrupted his at Stanford college education University to complete his basic training and serve in the Pacific during World War II. While there, he served as first Lieutenant Platoon Leader for the South Pacific 112th Regimental Combat Team. During the war, he met generals Dwight D. Eisenhower and Douglas McArthur. He served in McArthur's Honor Guard with Captain Harry Chambers in Tokyo. Following his military service, Ashton returned to Stanford and completed his education. Ralph's professional career has been varied and challenging, and has seen him serve as executive vice president of Ashton Brothers Company, a complete retail complex; president of Ashton Supply Company, a major trucking company and distributor of oil field drilling products; and president of Ashton Construction Company, builders of subdivisions, commercial and industrial buildings in two states. While maintaining this busy schedule, Ralph also served on the Wasatch Board of Academy Trustees and the AT&T Mountain Bell Advisory Board during the breakup of the telecommunications giant. Through the years, Ashton has been active in civic affairs in Vemal. He used his business connections to support the building of . The Uintah Basin Chess Club is anxious to see new players attend meetings that are held every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Kingsbury Community Hall, next to Vemal Floral on 100 North. Members meet for the sole purpose of playing a few friendly games of chess. The club was formed in conjunction with players who met at the Uintah County Library. Members of the Umtah Basin Chess Club were looking for a place they could meet for longer periods of time, and they ended up i i m mm Ralph Ashton baseball and softball diamonds, tennis court;, and other playground facilities, and spearheaded the effort to save the Dinaland Golf Course. Ashton procured volunteer services to improve the course and to build a new clubhouse, which saved the course from cerLrn closure. Ashton supported the city of Vemal in many ways, and always enjoyed coaching, being a referee and announcing athletic events within the community. Ashton's zest for life, interest in sports, support of his alma mater and dedication to public service made him an ideal candidate for the Wasatch Academy award which was presented in conjunction with the academys 128th Founder's Day Celebration where the school honors Duncan McMillan who opened the school on April 19, 1875. Wasatch Academy is the oldest continuously operating high school in the state of Utah and is located in the San Pete Valley. A reception will be held in their honor May 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Charlies Field of Dreams, 974 E. 500 N. Ralph Ashton Sr. honored by Wasatch Academy Jeffrey Morgan Kirk of Vernal and Karri Rae Dudley of Jensen, issued May 19. Jubilee donates sale proceeds Customers and employees of Davis Jubilee shared a day .of "parking lot sale" to raise $800 to be donated to the upcoming Cancer American Relay4Life Society national fund raiser. Barker and Batty to wed in temple at Kingsbury Community Hall. The club is informal and people are welcome to come and go as they please. Anyone is welcome to attend, even those who don't know how to play. Members Dane Bartlett and Mark Montgomery both said they would be happy to teach the game of chess to anyone who is interested. The only requirement is to show up. Chess is a really fun game, Bartlett said, and you can come and learn to play or play other people and have a good time. |
