Thome at the Thome Studio until the outbreak of World War II when he enlisted in the Navy. He has been a member of Kingsbury Congregational Churclj, now the United Church of Christ, since 1936 and has served many terms as deacon or trustee. He was appointed a life time deacon 25 years ago. Lawrence was a charter member of the Utah State Archaeological Society and became a member of the Uintah Basin Chapter when it was organized by Tom Freestone in He has been president a 1987. number of times. He is also a member of the Uintah Mountain Club. In 1977, Lawrence and Rhoda became owners of the Thome Studio and operated it until 1994 when they closed it so they could have lime to do something besides work. The original Thome collection in his museum at the studio were placed in the Western Park Heritage Museum where they can still be enjoyed by the public.
