Adam Francisco and his mother, Tina admire the Medal of Honor he received for his heroic efforts in saving his sisters life. Life saving grasp science earns Scout honors Adam Francisco says he didn't really have time to plan what he was doing, but his instinctive grab of his sister Cicillys leg as she plummeted down the face of a Dry Fork cliff, saved her from certain massive injuries, and very possibly death. The two had been rock climbing with their family when Cicilly had begun to slide about 200 feet above the meadow. She then went into a tumble head over heels down the rocks. Adam had come to her assistance, but a small sandstone foothold gave way and her freefall resumed. Ills quick-witteleg grab finally stopped her fall within one more tumble of another .10 foot drop. Cicilly broke her ankle in the fall that happened July I, 2002. Adam's own crunching fall down the face of the slippery cliff hurt his ribs and nose. Family watching the scenario from the base of the cliff fully realized the danger to both youth and could only observe helplessly. His heroic efforts also garnered Adam the opportunity to receive Scouting's prestigious Lifesaving d and Meritorious Action Honor Medal which was presented March 20 at the 2003 Uintah District Boy Scout Recognition evening held at the Ashley Stake Center. The Honor Medal was presented to Adam during the recognition ceremonies by a former scoutmaster. Skip Clinch. He noted that the Uintah High School sophomore always went the extra mile in everything he did. Following the presentation, his mother pinned the award to his uniform. Adam and Cicilly are children of Mark and Tina Francisco, Vernal. The distinctive Honor Medal may be awarded to a youth member or adult leader who has demonstrated unusual heroism and skill in saving or attempting to save life at considerable risk to self. Tina Francisco observed with emotion that "Adam would be receiving this award tonight, no matter how his rescue attempt had ended. Fie acted quickly and with strength to try to save his sister. We are just very thankful that he was successful 'so that we could all enjoy this award together tonight." Discovery Elementary named 10 overall winners in the science fair Thursday, March 6.
