The Utah Valley orchestra will perform the same program in Vernal that will be presented in New York City's Carnegie Hall in April. An added feature to the evening of symphony will be a special tribute to the military troops with a rendition of "American the Beautiful". The Vernal program titled, "A Symphonic Spectacular", will have over l(X) musicians performing, 40 of them violinists. USOMATA, under the direction of Ora I ay Oviatt, will perform one selection with the symphony in addition to it's performance of Kleine "Line Moart's Nachtmusik." The combined symphonic program will take the place of both the USOMATA annual Silver Tea and the Spring Concert as fund raisets for the local orchestra. Because these outstanding youth musicians must compete for membership, only the finest talent is admitted into the program. Dr. Hill is assisted in the Utah Valley Youth Symphony by Britton Davis, Samuel Tsugawa and David Beck. Brent Taylor is the executive president of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony Organization. Touring is an important focus of the organization, and tour fees are paid by participating members of the traveling groups. The orchestras have performed throughout the Western United Stales, in Hawaii, Carnegie Hall concert. They performed with the symphony in London and Paris last summer and they will perform with the symphony in Carnegie Hall in April. Two alumni of the symphonies, Carly Egbert and Merietta Oviatt, will also perform in the Vernal concert. Dr. Terry S. Hill serves as the music director of the Youth Symphony Oiganiation, as well as the principal conductor of the Philhaiinonica, the most advanced of the three orchestras. Dr. Hill earned both bachelor and masters degrees from Brigham Young University, and a doctorate from the University of Arizona, Tucson. He is the former artistic director of the Youth Symphony, having worked with the group for 17 years. He has served as the assistant conductor and recording director of the Mormon Youth Symphony and Chorus, and is presently the assistant professor of music at Utah Valley State College where he is the director of orchestras. In addition. Dr. Hill taught in public schools for 26 years, at both the and in New York City's Carnegie Hall. International venues include Europe and Russia. Last summer's concert tour to London and Paris brought enthusiastic reviews. Admission to the Vernal concert is $5 per person if tickets are purchased in advance or $7 at the door. Beta Sigma Phi hosts end of winter ball at Beta Sigma Phi started March off Hall in Vernal. A winter wonder- Tinas, where they tasted wine land including pine trees, white lights, snow and tons of balloons, gave the ball a magical touch. Misty was crowned this years Queen.
