By Ron Litton The International Folk Dance Ensemble from Brigham Young University thrilled a large audience last Saturday at the Vernal Middle School Auditorium. Finishing up the Uintah Arts Councils eighth concert series, the Folk Dancers returned to Vernal after six years much to the delight of all concerned. The acclaimed internationally award winning group, with their own live band and singers proved again why they are loved the world over as they are preparing again to mount a tour to Europe. The costumes were breathtaking, the music and the choreography authentic and accurate and the overall professionalism of the group again stood at the forefront of their performance. The program flowed smoothly for almost Beginning with a very interesting series of dances from Canada, they then danced their way through the United States stopping in the old South, pausing at the origins of American clogging styles, they then presented a segment of their 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics performance and exited the U.S. segment by stepping through Appalachia. Mexico and the United Kingdom were the next stops on our travels and the first half of the program and ended with the style of tradirousing River-Danc- e tional Irish clogging. After catching our breath for a few minutes , we were off again. Hungary, Bulgaria, South Africa and India were on the itinerary with a huge finish in the Ukraine with the most lively acrobatic dancing of the night, capped by ever-popul- OQlRKD the brightest and most dazzling costumes. The crowd literally leapt to their feet for a prolonged ovation at the finish. .
