Dragerton, Utah, Tuesday, October 21, 1947 1 Student Officers of East Carbon BISHOP HUNT EAST CARBON IS DEDICATES NEW DOWNED BY HELPER CATHOLIC CHURCH October 15, was a memorable day for Dragerton and surrounding communities. A new church was dedicated to care for the spiritual needs of the Cath- olic population of East Carbon, Most Reverend Duane G. Hunt, D. D., Bishop of Salt Lake performed the dedication services at four oclock p. m. The Bishop was assisted by the Very Reverend Monsignor Moreton, chaplain of Holy Cross Hospital and Utah State prison, and by the Pastor, Thursday, Number 17 The game Thursday between Helper and East Carbon started with its fire works immediately after Helper kicked off to East Carbon. From the very begin ning things began to happen. Carbon marched toward the goal line; Helper held on this occasion and took the ball away from East Car-Tbon. Helper took the ball and headed down towards East Car- bons goal line. Carbon took the ball again and proceeded to tally up six points. Morris Nelson got a forward pa&S Tommy Lee near the end zone for the touchdown. The extra point was missed. Helper immediately came back and on a long pass scored; thejr ran for the extra point. This put Helper out in front. The scoie 6 until after the half. remained East Carbon started right m early in the third quarter and again scored on a pass play from Merel Anderson to Morris Nelson, The extra point was missed for the time but East Carbon was jn front 12-- 7. Helper was mad and came back in the latter part of the third quarter to score and again 2. iead East Carbon The fourth quarter was a battle, East Carbon took the ball all over the field but failed to score. The boys fought their hearts out and played bang up ball. Helper nally broke their hearts again by scoring in the final seconds of the game, making the score 20-1- 2. Even though they failed to win, the boys showed the school and the community that they have a real fighting team and will give the best of them in their class a tough battle. It took them a couple of games to get organized and developed. They are strictly our boys from here on in. All the boys played well. Everyone was a star. Better luck next time, boys. The crowd really went all out in their enthusiasm. The Pep was yelling their hardest and the student body was right along with them. By Donna Woodruff. I i ' 5- 1- Ink mmm i A. Holds Election Wed. The intrepid new publishers, with the profound Sympathy of those who. have experienced thetribulations of running a weekly paper, anaj despite some disadvantages havej produced one Of the best small papers in the state. Nothing material worth having is free. This is no less true of a newspaper that gives something of value m local news and advertising messages. To get acquaint-ed- r the first issues were distributed free, but establishment of a permanent publication ith prestige and character precludes the possibility of other than a newspaper subscription list. We believe the people in the area it serves should be happy and eager to pay a fair price for their own representative publicapaid-inadvan- ce tion. No community ever amounted to anything without its own newspaper, it is the only publication that cares a hoot about its people or its interests. It seeks to serve. And with equal vigor, it should attack forces that work against the common good. It is the sparkplug of all civic enterprises, and without it most community projects fall flat. Aepmmunity is truly judged by its newspaper. We welcome this new paper into the Utah newspaper fraternity. Its publishers have shown industry and foresight which should be reflected by wholesome support by people of the Dragerton area. Its your newspaper it doesnt really belong to the publishers they just exercise a franchise to serve jmu. You can kill it or keep it alive by the measure of your support. HAL G. Since that time it has increased in size to from eight to ten pages, seven columns. With each succeeding issue we have tried to improve the standards of our newly founded publication and we believe that each issue finds us further along towards our ambition, an ideal paper for the communities we have undertaken to serve. The purpose for which this newspaper was organized was solely to bring the people of East Carbon closer together. No community ever achieves real satisfaction in its home life unless it has a newspaper to record Its activities for the present and to become a historical recording for the future. This newspaper is yours, it belongs to you. We are trying to put into it what you want to see and above all to serve the majority of our readers. 1 In order to be a recognized newspaper we must charge subscriptions.
