Friday, February 3, the Mustangs took to the road again to satisfy appetites sustained by what Coach Wamsley termed good heavy practices. Opening the game up for North Rich was Kelly Mills, slamming home four baskets for eight points and swishing three for three from the line. With other good shooting from the foul line by Andersen, Wamsley and Huefner, the Stangs found an easy first quarter lead of 17 to 10. Second quarter action followed the first, but scoring from the field was aided by Wamsley, Lamborn and Huefner. Mills continued to dominate the boards. Experience is shining through for the North Rich ball club, as their turnovers are almost completely under control. Totals for the first half were a scant five. Second half added up to seven. Regarding the total of twelve turnovers for the evening, Wamsley said Well take that any night. Score at halftime was Mustangs 35, Miners 23. Securing the third quarter lead was Scott Wamsley, who with four field dumps realized eight of the Mustangs fourteen points. Mills continued his good foul shooting with two for three from the line. Collins, normally the leader for Park City, was kept outside and held at a meager 18 points for the, game. We slowed him down over the outcome of our first game where he scored 25, added Wamsley. Playing tough defense, Huefner fouled out late in the last period, Wamsley commented that when youre given the assignment to play certain positions in the defense, you can become a victim of foul trouble. Park City made an energetic attempt to come from behind in the last quarter, but North Rich rallied and shut them down. The period score was Mustangs 22, Miners 21. With 39 rebounds and 12 turnovers for the game, Wamsley concluded that maybe it didnt have the intensity of some of our other games. The point total of 71 is higher than the Mustang average. Dearly, the Mustangs appear ready to tackle the North Summit rematch this 'evening in Laketown, as their statistics are superb even below peak intensity. News by Lowell Hance. - u II u ii ii ii "jin ii Going By i lo i iriuiiini inn ir Sfato j Braves Rally To Defeat Trojans By Larry Johnson The North Summit Braves with the strength of Ruth Smith Senior Mike Jackson took second place in his weight division last Friday at Park City as Region 13 and Region 11 came together in a wrestling bout to determine those wrestlers who would qualify for state competition. Mike earned his second place madal by winning his first two matches. He lost his final match to an opponent from White Horse. Seniors Lee Jones and Kevin Anderson returned home in third place, qualifying the two wrestlers for state competition. Jones earned his second win as he pinned his four-yecompetitor Marty Larsen from South Summit in an overtime. Jones lost his final match to an opponent from Monticello. Pinning his Green River opponent with one second left to go in the first Anderson won his final match and earned third place in the heavyweight division. Brady Ellis missed taking fourth place by losing his first match, winning his second, and losing his third. Brent Thomson was unable to convert his first two matches into wins. Two seniors, Flint Telford and Dave Hopkin, were unable to wrestle because of injuries. Coach Ralph Johnson and his South Rich Trojans traveled to Coalville, Utah Friday, February 3 to meet the North Summit Braves for the second time this season. South Rich is still smarting from their early loss in Randolph to the Braves in a season game Coach Johnson felt should have been won. The Trojans came ready to turn the tables on Bill Browns Braves. Both squads played well in the first quarter and finished tied at 14. The pace of the game took its toll on Coach Johnsons troops, as some mental mistakes were full-cou- man-to-ma- made and North Summit recovered momentum. Two three-poiplays and the South Rich lead disappeared. With two minutes left in the game. North Summit tied the score. The final two minutes found both teams missing foul shots and the Trojans lost a golden opportunity when trailing by one point, with 33 seconds remaining, Shawn Buckley broke free for a wide open lay-iThe ball circled the rim and spun into the hands of Trojan Krehl Brown who also found himself wide open. As before, Krehls shot refused to fall through the hoop, losing the lead for the Trojans. North Summit grabbed the rebound and moved the ball to their basket. South Rich committed a foul, sending Ferry to the line, where he converted both shots. Following a time out, the Trojans moved the ball quickly to the base line where Shawn Groll scored from a ten-fojump shot to bring the Trojans to within one point. The Braves responded with a rt pass where Gordon Tate fouled the Brave going to the basket. The Brave missed both foul shots, and with two seconds remaining, South Rich snagged the rebound. They were 85 feet from their basket and the final buzzer sounded with the scoreboard reading Home 58 - Visitors 57. The victorious Braves, who were 16 for 21 from the foul line, were led in scoring by J. Kennington 17, Brad Stevens -- 16 and Scott Terry with 12.
