Sits well as a rider but better than that Hes a rancher, a stockman, and father of two. The ideal top man to his cowboys in blue. His brand is a forehand, and he minds well his own. His honesty and fairness are both widely known. He carries a cane instead of Asel Mattson Dies Asel McPherson Mattson died at his home Tuesday evening Dec. 27th, 1984. He was born December 7th, 1917 to Jessie McPherson and Adrew Mattson at the Ola Mattson home in St. Charles, Idaho. The first five years of his life were spent at the north end of Meadowville, Utah. Then his parents bought the Moffet Ranch 2 miles south. He attended North Rich school and graduated in 1937. he met and married Marie Ames in 1955 and is the father of two sons, Charles Andrew and Bruce Asel Mattson. Rodeo and games that could be played on a horse were Asels favorite hobbies. He worked for years with the Rich County Rodeo serving as a judge, chairman of the grand entry and many other things pertaining to the Rodeo. He was responsible for having the green and white Rich County Roundup Days flag made. Asel sold his ranch in 1964 and built a house in Laketown. He became a livestock dealer (an occupation he enjoyed and did well). In March of 1973 he suffered a severe cerebral hemorrhage which slowed him down and his health continued to decline until the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Marie of Garden City, two sons, Andy of Magna, Utah and Bruce of Laketown, Utah. Three grandchildren: Jessie, Donald, & Jacob; and one sister, Mrs. Herman (Viola) Wood of Laketown. Marie, Asels wife, wrote the following poem which was read during the funeral) a whip. And seldom foul words will ere pass his lips. Hes desirable help in the stockman corral. Has the knowledge of a veteran and works with a will. He attends to his church upon Sabbath Day. And lives by his God for he believes in fair play. Hes a man of his word, to that he is bound, And to the men in his business his judgement is sound. He is quiet and kind for a man who sets rates. Yet hell gamble at poker and play for high stakes. Hes tall somewhat handsome Ive heard people say, But an auctions his love when he spares a day. He chooses the cattle trail when he takes a ride. And in all of my dreams I ride by his side. Asels funeral was held December 31 at 12:00 p.m. in the Garden City, L.D.S. Church.
