We have had every break in the book. know this . I I I sounds crazy, but I have a ter- rible fear that my life will be cut short by cancer. There is no logical rea son for this. Both my parents are in excellent health and their parents (wel I I into their 70s) I are swimmers I Li I and golfers and enjoy life to the full. When my neighbor had a mastec: tomy last year, I was afraid to visit her in the hospital for fear I might catch her cancer although know the disease is not contagious. I make this confesion so you will see how irrational I am on the subject. I realize there are many different kinds of cancers and no one knows why some people get cancer and others don't. Can you tell me (and millions of others) if there is anything we can do to protect ourselves against this frightenor is it just a matter of ing disease luck? This means immediate attention to any unusual appearance of blood, hoarseness of the voice and lumps in the breast, neck or in the area of the armpits. An annual physical for everyone over 55 years old is a must. Cancer is no longer a death sentence. Today 50 percent of cancers are curable. Thats the good news.
