It also left many "Deer Widows at home and wishing had packed an extra they set of woolen underwear for their husband who was off, who knows where, and was sure to freeze or get lost in the storm. For some, it was enough to cause them to turn back and try later, but for most the urge to stalk and kill the elusive prey was stronger then any desire to stay dry or fretting warm. Our much needed moisture came as a welcome relief to a long dry spell but the timing caused much discomfort and aggraviation to the thousands of hunters who migrate, annually, to the rugged hills and back country. The sheriffs departments around the state were kept busy also with every type from answer- ing phone calls from worried wives with over due husbands to pulling campers and trailers out of snowdrifts. All in all it was good weekend to stay home, enjoying the warmth of a woodburing stove (or fireplace), while a pot of homemade chili simmers (all day) over the fire. Then after the children are off to bed, there is nothing so relaxing as a mug of hot apple cider. Personally we prefer to do our hunting with a camera and a telephoto lens and' leave the challenge of the hunt to someone else. meg In just a few short days it will be Halloween. The night when little ghosts and goblins are out in search of treats to satisfy all the sweet tooths in town. I dont know if your little ones look forward to Halloween as eagerly as mine do, but I must admit, I rather enjoy it as well. Like many moms I go along on the neighbor- -- TACO hood trek, to carry the flashlight and, hopefully, to ward off attacks of thoughtlessly tossed water balloons. I'm all for fun, but when the is temperature its degrees and 45 dark spooky), the last a thing small child needs (or deserves) is to be (and soaked with water. If going door to door isnt your cup of tea, there is the annual PTA sponsored Halloween Carnival. This year it will be on Monday night, instead of Halloween, but well worth a couple of hours of your time. The crowd, at the School, Elementary seems to get bigger each year, but why not, its a lot of fun. meg Dr. Viehweg addresses Nautilus Club Dr. F. W.
