Show Inivuroil ill cruf lining B ox 2608 Lk' City i Corp Utoh Nephi, Juab County, Utah 84648, Thursday, December 25, 1975 Volume 66, Number 52 Greenbelt time at hand, says Juab FB president We overheard a Nephi lady making a date with a Nephi bishop But it's all right, his wife was right beside him and the date was for a couples Christmas party at one of our restaurants! reg The word is that an experienced genealogist, doing work of tracing the branches of the family tree back several generations for a family, came across a grandparent who definitely tarnished the lustre of the family history It seems that in a regrettable moment, the old gentleman had shot and killed a lady with whom he had been living for some time without the blessings of a legal marriage He had paid for it in the electric chair. From long experience, the genealogist knew that such details are not well received by wealthy clients When he came to record the data concerning this wayward ancestor in the detailed report, he wrote He was a man well known in his community. At the time of his death he was occupying the chair of applied electricity in an important New England institution reg well-knwo- n Trying to keep up with liing expenses today can turn into a comedy of arrears. reg It has been said that money and drunks have one thing in common the tighter the drunk gets (up to a point) the louder he becomes and the tighter money gets, the louder the dollar speaks' reg its Christmas eve or practically so and there are still a few of us who havent decided just what were going to buy the wife for Christmas. It would be nice to buy her a new Chrysler, Ford, Chevrolet, or some other car sold in Nephi, but inasmuch as she doesnt drive, thats out. It would be nice to buy her some per fume, but inasmuch as the fragrance of some perfumes has a nauseating effect on some folks, that wouldnt be wise It would be nice to buy her a box of delicious chocolates, but inasmuch as she would scold because of the calories involved, that is out. And besides, Id probably be snitching a couple of chocolates when her back was turned, and I shouldnt do such things (snitching nor eating chocolates). It would be nice to buy her a new dress, but she wont confide any size information, so I cant do that. It would be nice to buy her a head scarf, but shes already carrying a couple in the purse she received for her birthday last year, so both the head scarf and purse ideas are out. Theres just nothing to buy her, so I guess Ill just take this means of saying Thanks for being Mrs. REG all these years and let it go at that. reg Well, WINNERS in the Letters to Santa Claus contest received their $10.00 merchandise certificates from Reed Christensen, president of the Nephi Chamber of Commerce, the sponsoring organization. Were here to bring news to our subscribers, news of the family down the street, of the happenings along the street, and of the various things which transpire or which will transpire in the area in which were involved. And to support this dissemination of news, we must have advertising in the newspaper, but to a certain extent, this too, is news. It is news of the price of the pound of potatoes, the head of lettuce, the new shirt, the television set, the new automobile, the newest in banking services, etc., etc., for YOUR benefit to make you fully aware of the products available in our town, and at the prices these things are being sold at. But, we feel, that as Christmas day comes to us tomorrow (Thursday, December 25) we should pause to reflect on the days full meanings. We should contemplate the situation of that eventful day which we now call the first Christmas, the events that occured in the life of that baby born in the manger that day, and how His life and teachings have affected our lives today vsome 2,000 years later.
