Show Universal Microfilming Corp. B Salt NopK, that the wind at the Vine Bluff cemetery, that normally is prevalent on Memorial Day, was almost absent on Monday . and as we visited the area a day or so later hardly a container had been blown over. Thats the result of changing things from May 30 to the last Monday in it was quite breezy at times May Did you notice . . ... ... Wednesday ! or Speaking of the cemetery cemeteries . . . residents of Nephi can be quite proud of the conditions at both the Vine Bluff and the Nephi City cemeteries. the The lawns are kept neatly mowed regular sprinkling keeps them green and with all road within the cemteries hard surfaced, the dust problem so prevalent years and years ago has ceased to be a factor. We salute Nephi City officials of the present time, and those of the years past who planned and toiled to provide a beautiful resting place for the deceased. . . and particularly do we salute those who spend their time and efforts to make the areas very beautiful! reg to Our definition of self discipline turn the TV game of the week off and do a couple or three of those honeydew jobs which have been waiting for weeks. Honeydew jobs? You know . . . honey do this . . honey do that . . etc. etc. etc. far into the night reg Our good friend, Dr. Preston L. Jones is a patient at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, and was scheduled for surgery around noon Wednesday. We extend to Doc our best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery! reg Its nice to know that Governor Calvin Rampton, Senator Frank Moss, Senator Wallace F. Bennett joined forces a week or so ago to urge additional appropriation of funds for the very vital Central Utah project, in meeting with the Public Works subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations committee. The officials asked for an additional $20 million for the project for fiscal 1974. Also in the requests before the subcommittee were funds for the other reclamation projects of the state. reg Last weekends exodus rivaled the deei season as far as traffic count was concerned. We note that a couple of counters have been in use along main street, and we hope that every car was counted. Along about 6 to 7 p.m. Monday the stretch of 91 in our area resembled the San Diego freeway at rush hour . . . bumper to bumper. This weekend will be another exodus as the fisherman public head for the lakes and streams for the opening. We cannot urge too strongly that the pedestrian in our midst . . . and the motorists too . . . take a little extra precaution before crossing highways 91 or 132, cause the traffic will be very heavy Friday afternoon and evening and again on Sunday evening. reg The Fish and Game crew from Salt Lake City urge fishermen to leave a bit of skin on the fish they fillet when taking them during the opening this weekend. This is necessary to make proper identification of species, they tell us. reg ... ... . We recently were handed a clipping for the Star Valley paper . . . and one of these weeks well run it. It tells that the pollution fighters in the northwest have forced the use of diapers on the horses used in logging seems as though the operation pollution fighters have the idea that the streams were being polluted. Question which struck us is this: Where are they going to deposit all the droppings which are caught in the diapers? To me, this sounds like a lot of fertilizer! Thats the nicest way we could say what were thinking! .... Senior Citizens will meet at the Senior Citezens Center on Wednesday June 6, for films and refreshments. I ... High School rodeo set for Friday, Saturday Use insecticides with care. Safety Council warns Few users of insecticides realize what poisons the bugs can also poison people. This word of caution comes from Dr. J. Howard Latimer, Utah Safety Councils Vice President tor Home Safety. Some of the strongest insecticides were developed during World War II as a form of nerve gas. Chemists have done their best to make these organic compounds as toxic to insects and as harmless to humans as possible, hut they cannot eliminate all the risk or the chemicals would be inelfective and worthless. Pesticides most commonly used in gardens and homes are the chlorinated hydrocarbons, which are comparatively low on the toxicity scale. However, warns Dr. Latimer, these too are capable of bringing on severe poisoning and illness. He said accidental ingestion accounts for the greatest number of deaths from pesticides, and there is a long list of fatal accidents where young children have found and eaten a variety of poisons. A large concentrated dose of insecticide is not necessary to poison you, Dr. Latimer points out. A small intake of the chemicals over a period of time can cause extreme damage and perhaps bring on a debilitating sickness affecting the blood, liver or kidneys. Despite the hazards of pesticides, they are necessary and the homeowner can use them safely if he follows appropriate precautions. Dr. Lateimer offers the following precautions: Read and follow directions on the label. - Don't spray food or food containers. - Don't pul insecticides on childrens lurmlure or belongings. Avoid inhaling sprays or dusts as much as possible. Keep insecticides from touching your skin. Wash your hands alter using any insecticides. Store insect teides as you would any other poison Dispose ol empty containers where children can't Imd them. It you suspect poisoning, call the doctor. - JARC to hear Nebo Center's High school rodeo stars from throughout the state will be in Nephi Friday and Saturday evening for the annual Juab High School Rodeo Club rodeo performances.
