During the past few years, Bur Buttercup has become a serious threat to dry land wheat crops. This weed is spreading rapidly over the diy farms in the county. Public mearings will be held at Cedar City, Price and Ogden under the sponsorship of the Utah State Advisory EducaCouncil for Vocational-Techniction. Meetings will be held: At Cedar City, May 18; at Price, May 19 and at Ogden May 25. At each of the meetings the local district school superintendent will briefly explain what is happening in the vocational-technical area, and a local business leader will speak briefly concerneding the needs for vocational-technicucation. The meeting then will be opened for the public to express their view- points, concerns and recommendations in the vocational-techniceducation area. The annual Girls Day is being planned for May 14. The events for mothers and daughters are a fashion show, a marching display by the ProVita, and a luncheon. Earlier in the day there will be an assembly for the student body. The girls skills in homemaking will be tested in a pie and cake baking contest. Senior high girls will bake cherry pies, and junior high girls will make chocolate cakes. These will be judged on May 13. A dance also is being planned as the concluding activity of the day. Rampton, Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. at the Juab Stake House for Mrs. Beth Allred Sperry, 38, wife of Charles Lee Sperry. Mrs. Sperry died at the Juab County Hospital Sunday of natural causes. Friends may call at Anderson Funeral Home prior to the services today. Mrs. Sperry was bom August 12, 1932 in Centerfield, a daughter of Glen and Dora Jensen Allred. She was married to Charles Lee Sperry October 7, 1957 at Centerfield. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da-y Saints. Survivors are her husband, Charles Lee Sperry; a daughter and son: Becky Lee and Charles Bart Sperry, all of Nephi; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Allred of Centerfield; a brother and sister Jay Allred and Mrs. Junior (Glenna) Hansen, Centerfield. New Weed Control MISS NEPHI Services Today Annual Utah State FFA spring contests will be held in Logan this Friday and Saturday. The local FFA members are planning to enter teams in mechanics, crop and land judging, dairy cattle judging and livestock judging. The mechanics team is preparing to enter a contest with hopes of bringing home another first place trophy. The ML Nebo chapter teams have won first place the past four years, and in seven of the past eight years. This years team will be selected from Kevin Stanley, Dennis Stuart, Ted Bosh and Kent Three of the four will comprise the team. The teams instructor, Jay Dailey, states that The team appears to be as well prepared as those in past years, and with a little luck we may be able to win again. Competition becomes stronger each year and one of the other schools may beat the local group this year. Other teams are preparing to represent the chapter and school :with the best effort possible, but competition in other contests is considered tougher than in machanics. Even though teams may not be top winners .the experiences receive in competition makes the effort very much worthwhile.
