Each year many Christmas trees are taken illegally from the Nephi Ranger District Most of them are cut along the roadsides and In the campgrounds in our local canyons. This greatly damages the beauty of our canyons and campgrounds. Taking, a tree this way may provide enjoyment for the family involved, but the same tree left unharmed in the Forest can provide enjoyment for countless numbers of persons using the National Forests. No permits for Christmas trees are being issued this year on the Uinta National Forest This does not mean that trees cannot be obtained from a national forest Several other national forests are making trees ..available for large volume sales as well as Individual permits. The Bureau of Land also has trees Management avilable most years. The Forest Service officials ask that everyone cooperate with them In this matter, and reminds that illegal removal of Christmas trees from the national forests and other government lands, as well as private lands, Is in violation of state and federal laws. Also, the new Utah state law concerning Christmas trees makes it an offense to transport a tree at any time or place without a valid Christmas tree tag securely attached. For private land owners selling trees, these tags must be obtained from or approved by the state. Dr. Vlair Acord, USU Extension Livestock Specialist, will be the speaker. Dr. Acord will discuss cattle fertility, selecting replacements for higher fertility, and management practices which increase fertility. Burton was honored at her home Saturday, November 29 when her family angathered at a niversary dinner in her honor. Mrs. Burton, widow of Thomas H. Burton, was bom at Nephi December 9, 1880, daughter of James D. and Mary Ellen Grow Pexton. She and were married January 14, 1903. He died August 13, I ; Mr. Cowan was bom at Salt Lake City November 20, 1892, a son of John Smille and Elizabeth Ann Candle Cowan. He married Marlon LaCeraa Ingram April 26, 1917 In the Salt Lake IDS Temple. She died July 20, 1961. On April 3, 1963 he married Pearl Nielsen in toe Mantd LDS Temple, Mr. Cowan resided In Cedar City for 30 years and has resided In Nephi for the past seven years. He was for toe Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years, most of which time was at Cedar City. A member of toe Nephi Fourth Ward, he was also a member of toe Fourth Ward Choir. He was instructor In toe High Priests group of the Nephi Fourth Ward, and was a member of the Juab Stake High Priests quorum. He had served for many years as a ward clerk In Cedar City. Survivors are his widow, Pearl N. Cowan of Nephi; two sons and four daughters: Dee clerk-cashi- er G. Cowan and Max G. Cowan, both of Cedar City; Mrs. Don D. (Elaine) Stephenson, PasaMrs Marion dena, Maryland; (Dorothy) Richens of Murray; Mrs. Lowell (Colleen) Sherratt of Brigham City: and Mre. Lewis (Eileen) Stewart of Kearns. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and two greatand a sister, grandchildren, Mrs. Lucille Lunt, Nephi. Burial at Cedar City was directed by Anderson Funeral Home of Nephi. H. Ray Franoom of Levan, former Juab County Commissioner, was honored guest at a Thanksgiving dinner and birthday party on Thurssur-pri- ce The ocday, November 27. casion was in honor of Mr. Francom on his 80th birthday anniversary. The party was given by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
