La Sal Elementary School, the only school to enter the grounds. each tank owner needs to be insured or receive gas from a distributor, is July 1, 1991. If tank owners have not yet begun the paper work for the permit, there is a very good chance they will not meet the deadline, according to Bryan Whitaker with the State Bureau of Environmental Response and Remediation. Tank owners need to have each of their tanks tested before their permit application can be completed. If, however, tank owners are waiting for a tank tightness test, they are urged to get what they have done on their ap- plication into the state. Whitaker said, Otherwise they might be sorry. Often some part of an application is incomplete and there cant be an extension of this deadline. The deadline is a statute of the state legisla- ture. After July 1, petroleum distributors will be prohibited from selling fuel to tank owners who do not have state liability coverage. Distributors who violate the law could face a $500 penalty for each violation. Tickets are available for drawings at the fair. Contact fair board members or the extension office.
