Show OUTEAST NEWS Sober services held in Blanding Funeral services were held Aug. 23 in Blanding for Duke Doris Sober, who was killed Aug. 20 in an accident on a "cat" in the Mormon Pasture area near Blanding. Mr. Sober was bom at Woodward, Okla. , Jan. 1, 1909, the son of August and Kathryn Seamore Sober. He spent his early years in that area, but worked in the oil fields of Texas and Oklahoma before , coming to Monticello to make his home in 1942. He was employed for a number of years at the Vanadium Mill in Monticello, in mines in the county and as a contractor on heavy equipment. It was on a job of this kind that he met his death, when a tree fell from the ledge above and struck him. He was married to Ada Fay Castor Oct. 11, 1929 and she died in 1948. He then was married to the former Dixie Black and they lived in Monti cello until moving to Blanding 14 years ago. Bishop Grant L Shumway officiated at the service held in the Blanding Ward Chapel. Mrs. Mabel June Palmer furnished the music and a nephew Brent Kartchner, gave the prayer at the home with Arvid Black giving the opening prayer. The obituary was given by Bishop Scott A. Hurst and speakers were Harvey Soc. Sec. man here next week A representative from the Durango Office of the Social Security Administration will be in Monticello on Sept. 4 from 1 p. m. to 3 p. m. in the County Courthouse, The representative will be in Blanding at the City Hall on Sept. 5 between the hours of 9 a. m. and 11:30 a. m. A vocal solo "He Walked With Me" was given by Darwin Jones and a mixed triple trio sang "Sometime, Somewhere" and "The Old Rugged Cross. " The closing prayer was given by Dlis Palmer. Pallbearers were Mike Knack, Edwin Carothers, Luther Sober, Wade Carothers, Hugh Acton, Curtis Palmer and Carl Klatt. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the San Juan Mortuary of Blanding and interment was in the Blanding City Cemetery. Surviving Mr. Sober, in addition to his widow, are his children Ruth Bowman of Okanogan, Wn. , Edwin of San Diego, Cal. , Wade of Coltsneck, N. J. , Kathy Knack. Elaine and Linda Sober, of Blanding, ten grandchildren, brothers and sisters Guy and Arlie Sober, Texas; Charles and Richard of Oklahoma; Hazel Ross, Ila Lewis and Zoe West of Oklahoma. In addition to friends from Monticello who came for the services Mr. and Mrs. Bob Musselman of Moab, several nephews from Texas, and his children and a brother, Arlie Sober, were in attendance.
