Show r Mr. oml nn irmtb J on i Board elects three new officers At its monthly meeting Thursday evening, the Museum Board replaced four of its members who were moving or expected to be away for some time, and elected three new officers as replaceMonti-cell- o ments. Those leaving were Larry Bailey, who will be away at school; Ruth Mickelson, who is in Wisconsin; Cleal Bradford, now a Blandingite; and Willie Barton, soon to go to Mesa, Ariz. Cleal, Willie and Ruth were the three officers to be replaced. New members added to the board were Echo Ney, Wilford Frost, Grant Bronson and Elmo Redd. The following were elected to fill the officer vacancies: Robert E. Anderson, president; Echo Ney, secretary; and Nell Dalton, treasurer. Speaker for the evening was George Tripp of Bountiful, who of Utah State is president-elec- t Archeological Society. In order to encourage the board members in their efforts, Mr. Tripp related the histories of the museums in Price and Moab, their small beginnings and how they were built up. He also explained why artifacts are taken out of the coun-- club tours Garden local gardens Trophies presented at league banquet ty by archeologists and how history is preserved by those who have learned the proper way of excavating ruins and how knowledge is forever lost by the indiscriminate digging of those who are only looking for souvenirs. Mr. Tripp made the board aware of th lecture resources we all have in the university professors, if we only ask. The board was grateful for the information and the questions Mr. Tripp was able to answer. Community hears Miss Audrey Palmer Engagement Church missionary Sunday, Oscar E. Olsen of Rochester, Minn, read from the scriptures at the evening services at the San Juan Community Church and then told of his familys experiences at a Lutheran mission to the Navajos fifty miles north of Chinle, Ariz. Mr. and Mrs. Olsen and their daughter Becky spent the last six months at the mission, Mrs. Olsen as a nurse in the infirmary and hospital and Mr. Olsen as administrator. The familys car broke down in Monticello as they started home and they stayed over the weekend here waiting here for it to be fixed. The Olsens have a business in Minnesota which they left to spend a year and a half at ia mission in California and six months in Arizona. They are now returning to Minnesota to take up their business again. They expressed graditude for the warm welcome they received at the Community church. Members of the Monticello Garden Club took a tour of a variety of living gardens last Wednesday afternoon. The group of about twenty people met at Mrs. Herm Butts home for a short business session before going on safari. Trophies were presented to the following people: In first place was the Tex-burgteam consisting of Harold E. Cole, Robert E. Anderson, Ed Markosek, A1 Haskins, and Rodney Harris. Alternate Shorty Broderick played in many of the games for this team. Second place was taken by the Shumway Apartments team with players John Mitchell, Keith Shumway, Rodney Rasmussen, Floyd Bleak, and Reed Lance. Keith Shumway had high average with a 176. Lyle Johnson took high game scratch, while Rodney Rasmussen took high series scratch. Fred Halliday won high game with handicap and Gordon Adams high series with handicap. Stevens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Stevens of Blanding. The couple plans to be married July 27 in the Los Angeles Temple. Both are graduates of San Juan High school. Mr. Stevens attended the Utah State University in 1964. He is now employed by the Herco Construction Co. ' in Lancaster, Calif, where the couple plans to make their home after their marriage. A group of BLANDING family and friends gathered at Guest the Blue Mountain Ranch Saturday, June 5, to honor Hyrum E. Porter on his 80th birthday. Hosting the party were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Porter, assisted by Carol Lyman and Barbara Anne Palmer. A delicious buffet lunch was served, with the main dish of barbecued beef. A birthday cake was made and decorated by Mrs. Neil Black. M. Evenson. The guests were divided into teams with space age labels and the evening was spent playing games around that theme. Guests brought dishes for the potluck dinner which was enjoyed by all.
