Show 9 by Horae Elmo PUCGY qM Palettes meet Attorney General rules for Utah on potash lands Secretary of Interior Udall was urged Friday by Senator to Frank E. Moss immediately approve all pending applications for transfer of federal lands in the Kane Creek area. Four applications covering 1,036.41 acres were included in the specific test case ruled on last' Thursday by Attorney General Kennedy. Also pending, however, are 14 more applications covering 7,225.14 acres of Kane Creek property. The Attorney Generals opinion announced Thursday came on an interpretation of the law governing exchanges of federal and state lands. The law provides that if state school land sections are included in federal withdrawals (such as for military installations or national parks) the state may select other federal lands of equal acreage. It further provides that, if the state lands withdrawn are mineral in character, the state may take federal mineral lands in making its selections. The solicitor of the Depart at BLANDING Members of the Palette club met Tuesday e evening at the home of Terrell. Mrs. Dorothy Jones assisted as Del-phin- ment of Interior had rendered an opinion that the valuable Kane Creek lands requested by the State of Utah were not eligible for transfer under that law. The Attorney Generals opinion disagreed, and thereby opened the way for Utahs acquisition of the land. Texas Gulf Sulphur Company is now sinking a $30 million shaft on the property near the San County line and the D&RGW railroad has built a spur from Crescent Junction to the site of the potash plant. Several hundred thousand dollars a year are expected to accrue to the state school fund from lease fees on the land. Juan-Gran- home Terrell d 582. A $35 entry fee was charged. were refunded half of this fee. Caddie fees $10 per round, but Grant had a friend tote his clubs. Two other courses were used for qualifying rounds. The Century and the Scottsdale Country Clpb. Low for Moon Valley was a 68: high, an 85. Some picked up at the end of their lost day at golf. Grant three-puttehis way out of the money. He golfed beautifully from tee to green. Then, how to cope with 150 foot putts? Without time to understand the greens, few could expect to master them. Hogan has called putting a game within a game. It is therefore possible to golf well, score high. Grant had only one "bad hole: the par three, 237 yard 11th saw his tee shot trapped. Blasting from wet sand, Grant needed two shots to get onto the green. His five there was the wasted two shots that kept him from joining the sudden death playoff at 76. Gary Player: best golfer to watch. Bud and Arab Corbin joined tour Grant on a there. The insignia printed on their golfing caps brought queries about San Juan and Monticello. Grant had taken publicity pamphlets and cards with him. Ha scattered these around. While at the Carefree Country Club they visited with Demaret (Masters Jimmy Champion three times, recent Hall of Fame) who regarded the Carefree course a fine W Grant expressed his County. He looks forward to a wonderful season of golf here for all Many of the things that happen are more horrible than the things we worry about.
