SURQENTS RECEDE 34 NUMBER SHOT 10 DEATH UTAH ASSASSINATION PUTS TEMPO JU ARY STOP TO OPEN PLOTTTING GROUPS BY ROYALIST IR18H REPUBLICAN EXTREMISTS ARE BLAMED FOR MURDER OF FIELD MARSHAL London. Field larshal Sir Henry e Wilson was shot dead Thursday his home in Eaton Square by two men. The men were captured. Field Marshal Sir Henry Wilson was Great Britains representative on the allied supreme council which dictated allied military policy during the latter part of the war. He was chief of staff of the British army. In the latter capacity he was respon. aible for sending troops to Ireland daring recent troubles. The war office believes that Irish extremists were responsible for the assassination. After shooting Sir Henry the two assassins ran through the streets pur. sued by police who constantly guards Baton Square, where many of the most prominent men in England have their London homes Shots were fired after them down the narrow streets through which they fled, past houses of titled personages and cabinet ministers who were within earshot when Wilson was killed. The murderes turned and fired at their pursuers, keeping up a running gun fight for three quarters of a mile. A policeman giving chase was dropped by a bullet from an assassins gun. A civilian unable to dodge the volley, was wounded. Lord Carson Ulsters champion, has a town house within a few rods of the scene of the murder. It is constantly guarded by special policeman. 'An eyewitness to the tragedy told the United Press the following story of the shooting: I was in the neighborhood of Eaton Square and heard shots ring. I looked in time to see the two armed men pumping bullets from their revolvers Into the body of Sir Henry. When I reached him his head, legs and chest were literally riddled with ballets.
