The part is well played and the innocence and ingenuousness of her replies to questions of the officer in command, making it painfullj real. Stic ; ending as it does in the condemnation of her father to the ga lsey lor hfe. The part of Jean Renaud was rendeied by Mr. Lindsay with the usual etRctiveness of his florid style of acting. Miss UJall as wife and daughter was, at times pleasing and engaging, although sne lacked, or at least did not display sufficient emotion which some scei.es requued; and also a certain Stiffness of carriage was evident at times. The playing ol Misses Lindsay was quietly dignified, and quite m keeping witn their par.s Mr. Daniels as Barney was amusing, but lacked the biogue necessary to the impersonation of an Irish character. Less attatudimz-inwould improve this gentlemans playing. The other patts call for no particu'ar mention, On Tuesday evening the same comof pany appeared in the four act play Hazel Kirke. As the irascible old miller Mr. Lindsay found a part not quite suited for his style of playing, but nude a presentable appearance. As Hazel Kirke, Miss Udall certainly had a p.ut assigned her, for which her poweis are not capable. Miss Millie bchroder as the cousin had A character more suited for her than the one of the previous e ening. As Pittacus Green Mr. Jas. Daniels kept the audienfce in a stream of laughter while on the stage at the puns he h utl to utter. This is a character requiring but little effort on the part of the personator to keep the aud.ence with him ; and Ue with which Mr. Daniels brusquen'ess played hfelped the part out. But again the actor was too free in his attitude. Could the management not commence playing earlier in Stead of keeping the audience wearying for an hour and a half after the doors are opened? The orchestra might have discoursed their music nior'e frequently than they did. We have been better satisfied on other occasions With their playing. If the players of Manti would cease playing in snlall squads, as they generally do, we might haVe popular plays oftener without having to wait for a traveling company, presenting them. Take A hint friends. The foregoing critisism (conttibuied) is evidently written from the standpoint of one who ciiticizes professionals; and as nonfe of the company can be so considered but Mr. Lindsay, and possibly MrH4d,we consider the remarks too searching. Miss Schroder made her first appearance we are infoimed, and if so, she has great posSibilities:and Mi-- s Udall is charming and very natural. Mr.lJaniels we consider supb as P. G. Bd.
