Marie of the s Outdoor By Kay Boulter if To Hunt or Not To Hun: Yes sir this is the question every young sportsman under the age of 21, who has not held & resdent Utah hunting license prior to April 1, 1960, should Fa be askng himself. As the days slip by it becomes incrcas-j- J ingly more vital, particularly if you are one of the un 'r fortunates that hasnt complied with the law. What law you exclaim. Well, let me fill you in j -- On March he Utah Legislature passed a law providing for a certificate of competency in the safe handling of firearms. It became effective May 12, 1959. This law, briefly states that by April 1, 1960 any person underthe age of 21 unless he presents to the Dept, of Fish and Game, or one of ts authorized license agent (1) satisfactory proofthat he has held a resident hunting license issued by the dept of Fsh and Game; or (2) a certificate of competency as provided by law; or (3) satisfactory proof that he has successfuly passed a national rifle assn, or officers training corps gun training course, that he is a ervice man or veteran who has successfuly completed basic training) or he has successfuly completed other training equivalent to that provided for in sec. 2, chap. 33 of the Fish and Game code fo r a certificate of competency. On and afer April 1, 1960 all persons 1 years of age and under, upon applying for any hunting license in this state, must present a certificate of competency. And I might add in some communities this certificate are hard o come by. Why hard to come by? Well, someone has fallen down along he way. Just who Im not permitted to say. The Fisih and Game Dept, has instructors given assistance to the instructors in these classes. Some instructors have con ducted classes and completed the course, with a few certificate being issued. Maybe if you havent received your certificate yet, you are partially to blame. At anyrate we all have a big job to do if we plan to have our young people hunt this year. i Carrots Nu-Mello- w 2 for Cello pack 3 for Margerine Scans Cudahy Vienna Sausage Cudahy potted Meat me ' 6 cans Cudhay Chili with Beans 3 cans $1.00 $.95 i $.73 $.73 P IIERSIIEY Candy bars Reg. If I were siteen or under and hadnt thaken the huntei safety course, and received my certificate of competency yet, especially if I planned to hunt this year Id find out who the instructors are in mycommunity and urge them to hold some more classes At any rate Id kick up a stink big enough to create some action. What, with less than three months till dead line someone got to get on the ball. Remember instructors, it, takes several weeks to complete the course, and that is about all that is left. If you havent conducted at least one class this year you are falling short of the pledge you took when you agreed to take the instruct or course. Time and money have been spent on you. lets pass it onto the boys and girls. How about it? JUST IN PASSING: The following are qualified instructors in Iron County: PAROWAN: F. C.
