A thousand laborers will be employed; six or seven thousand acres of sorghum and beets will have to be raised; several thousands of uoiiars will be expended in .buildings and machinery and when completed and woiking at full capacity it wifl save over a million dollars yearly to the Territory which is now sent out for sugar. It is from this of course that the laborers, farmeis, mechanics, etc. will be paid, and m addition the seeds and refuse .from the cane and beets can be led to Jhogs and thereby save the enurmotts output of the Territory for pork. There .are many names of solid business men ,of the Territory attached to the solicitation of all parties interested in the advancement of the material prosperity of the Territory to subscribe stock and the .company should be successful. i) li" ! c it, think, -i 1 y Some attribute an entiiely different native thin the securing of more evenly (d.stribute J representation in the council tv the placing of the new ticket in the field last Monday. No doubt to some extent this was the effect, but we are not yet convinced that to reach this effect was the intent of the promoters. We think the whole thing hinged on representation. To get a more evenly distributed representation it was necessary of course to sti ike from the ticket some names and no disrespect was necessarily intended to be shown to either Mr. Andrews or Mr. Cazier. The only qustion now is whether or no a mistake was made. We have a good ticket and The Ensign is not prepared to say that a mistake of any serious moment was made. But this can be said, that Mr. Andrews business tact, success, integrity, influence and push .would have been a very material aid to the council. The many votes that were cast for him, late as it was when "pulling was commenced, shows conclusively that his vvoith is appreciated by the citizens. We trust that Mr. Andrews, notwithstanding his defeat if we may so call it, will not lag in his efforts for the welfaie of the city. n, . .If the majority of the people are really ' anti-Morm- that of Ogden is, Liberals the Junction City will be a hard town hereafter and a hot bed for dissention and strife and go down rather than up ihe hill of progress. But if, as we think, the people are a free and liberty loving, untrameled and progressive people, having given ihe reins of city government into the hands of the Liberals in order to get out front the grasp and command of firm but fanatical paity leaders, the change will be good, for next election 'the tickets will be Democratic and Re. publican. If it should be thus two years hence, the majority of the cities of Utah will soon follow in Ogdens wake, but it .won't be necessasy to give the Liberals two years rule to do it. There is no royal road to anything. One thing at a time all things in succession. That which grows fast, withers as rapidly; that which grows slowly endures. So says a writer. These are noble words words we should always bear in mind. Let us work with continued diligence but be not in too great haste; let every action of ours be well considered before it is commenced and fully matured before we leave it. These suggestions apply very forcibly to the work now before Nephi City. ShoultJ this copy of The Ensign fall into the hands ol any one who is not a subscriber, and that person is iu any way interested in Southern Utah, we respectfully ask him to forward his name to this office witli a request to put it on our subscription list for a year. It will only cost him two dollars and he will be helping the paper just that much, to acdecomplish its end of building up and of Southern resourses, the veloping Utah. ' Considerable interest has been felt for some time all over the Territory in the Ogden city election which came off last Monday; as it w as known that the two opposing part ex Liberal and People's were very evenly divided and that much vigilant wuik being done by each party to win the day.
