Such is the case of the Park City Consolidated Mines Company, which operated in Utah for more than 10 years, producing approximately $4,000,000 worth of ores. When in about 1940 the cost of operations began to grow too large as depth was attained, the Park City company began to look about for other properties to operate. A number of properties throughout Utah were examined, but nothing was found that would fit into the companys program. Other Western States were sounded out and finally the company found what it was looking for, a deposit of low grade lead ore near Fredericktown, Missouri. The Missouri property was placed on a producing basis by the Utah comany in 1943, and is now paying its first dividend, which will go largely to Utah stockholders. It is unusual when a Utah company goes east, as the trend for many years has been toward development of Utahs resources by capital from outside the State. Development and new exploration ia the greatest need in Utah mining industry to restore the States known ore reserves to a normal basis, after heavy depletion during the war. Honor of the furnace went to Mrslighting Mary Duffy, wife of General Manager E J. Duffy of the Utah Kaiser-Frazoperations. The furnace fire, which may burn for years, was started when Mrs Duffy thrust a red-hbar into a special charge in the furnace, which will produce 300,000 tons of pig iron in six weeks when in full operation. J. Edgar Kaiser, general manager of the Kaiser-FrazParts Corporation, Willow Run, Mich igan, and son of Henry J. Kaiser, told those gathered for the ceremonies that decentralization of manufacturing and production is inevtatole. He expressed unlimited confidence in the Wests industria. future. Who Owns Salt In Great Salt Lake? The Great Salt Lake belongs to the State of Utah, and the ownership carries with it the title to all mineral in solution. This means that the State owns the 6,000,000,000 tons of salt in Great Salt Lake and any use of the same must be obtained by application to the State Land Board, Edward W.
