Cortez--No- that the Canyon of the Ancients National w Monument is a done deal, the Montezuma county commissioners have released a resolution expressing their commitment to the new resolution designation. The commissioners have released a detailing the events that led to last Junes proclamation of the monument, as well as an outline of their commitment to a new strategy for developing the area. Cortez Journal six-pa- ge -- County may face gravel pit suit.. an effort to keep the air in the area clean, County Commissioner Thryl Hunsaker of Tboele County has raised issue with the proposed Stockton Bar gravel pit. Hunsaker points out a gravel pit in Stansbury Park that produces so many noxious fumes from its x batch plant, that area residents find it difficult to leave their homes at times. Springville attorney Allen Young claims that the owners of the proposed gravel pit are dedicated to being good neighbors, and that they have a legal right to continue with the pit. Young added later that if the county votes against the pit, they could involve themselves in a lawsuit, as the area is zoned to allow a gravel pit facility. This educational adventure was made possible by the consistent interest and enthusiasm of Grand County Middle School eighth graders: Brooke Kay, Ashly Leavitt, Cameron Pruitt, and Grand County High School freshman Hank James. The combined efforts of the students and their mentor, Bon Kelly, coupled with generous funding from KZMU (education travel budget), the Grand County Council (gifted for this purpose), and the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB), resulted in a experience for of each these students.
