Show Range of Grain Future Butter Market San scoring today. A Home Paper for Home People Fourth Year No. 101 Teleph one LOGAN, UTAH, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1935 Boston Letter To MAJOR WILL FRIENDS PAY j Cache American BE By F.R.A. Boston on Wheels October first, 1935 The beginning of October sees Boston rejoicing that the line storm (what Logan calls the Conference rain) is over, that the children at last tucked away in school and college and parents are free to go to the autumn races for two weeks at Suffold Downs or else to trek north into New Hampshire, Vermont and Canada to see the autumn foliage. The latter is so brilliant that it dazzles even Westerners who see each year the oriental colors in the canyons. Most of the Vermont farms have as many as 1509 sugar maples and these surpass any mere canyon maples for autumn coloring. Each of these trees only gives two pounds of sugar when tapped in the spring or eight quarts of syrup but they are also better than posters to lure the tourist, and as you ride through the country you realize that the chief wealth of New England is no longer field and factory products, but maple sugar and tourists. The only thing produced on the farms now is hay and dairy cattle. In fact Vermont has, one hundred thousand more cows than citizens. The usual autumn foliage drive id ithree hundred and twenty miles up to Montreal. You follow up the valley of the Merrimac to the White Mountains, then up the Connecticut valley find Up through fields of buckwheat aild French Canadians to the Saint Lawrence. You return by the way of Burlington, Vermont, cross the state to the Joseph Smith farm, near the White River Junction, then visit Dartmouth college, the largest of the small New England colleges, a college refuses to admit more than five hundred in a class as they know that is all that can be properly handled in an educational mass. They have never even heard or dreamed of the state beatific adcfration and Colleges Cpcft mouthed worship of mere size. They aim' Hi quality, in Canada the automobile traveller gets an excellent idea of a land where there are no bank failures, where whole families, many with thirteen and children, work on farms, where the ftoman Catholic church and the French languare promises to be more eternal even than they are in France. One of the farms that even Cache Valley might admire has one hundred acres of rhubarb grown for forcing in January, two hundred acres of forest, twenty acres Of sugar maples, fifty dairy cows and a dozen tourist cabins. I Shorter Hours CHARGE Demanded OF DR1LLIIM1 formed the Aggie Home coming celebration committee that he will be in charge cf the Fort Douglas band and drill team for the celebration. The convoy will have ten army trucks lead by four motorcycle men. Including drivers there will be a total of ninety men in the band and drill team. The drill team will stage a special demonstration during the half of the football game. The band with its color guard and drill team will lead the parade through the business section along Main street and the band procession at the North entrance and around the race course at the stadium. Major Bacon is an Aggie Alumnus of 1914 and he is pleased to be present and participate in the home coming. Another very impressive unit will, be the U.S.A.O. Band and R.O.T.C. ' unit. All the men will have new uniforms and take part in the parade and the program at the stadium. TRIBUTES TO RICHMOND MAN It has been reported that a number of local chain stores are) working their employees extra hours beyond the NRA code hours( without pay for overtime. Also that some women are employed who are working more than forty eight hours per week without, pay for overtime. j The Cache County Government Reemployment Committee re- quests that these merchants employing male help conform 'to? the fifty four hour week as against the seventy two and eightyj hours now being imposed on the employees by some of these ! employers. The Committee believes that at a time such as this when the Federal and State government are trying to create and fine employment for as many individuals as possible, that practice of this character should not be tolerated. The Committee res-- ) pectfully invites these merchants to conform to the fifty four hour week. The NRA code is still in effect in Utah. The Comi mittee also gives notice to the employers of female help thaf, forty eight hours per week is the maximum according to the Btate law. Where this law is not observed the case will be re ported to the State Industrial Commission for prosecution and I publicity. CACHE COUNTY GOVERNMENT REEMPLOYMENT , COMMITTEE Major R. R.
