Hern hat tent a communicacall-mtion to all department heads in the state of Utah attention to the threatened depiction of the stale made appropriations of treasury. The last legislature the state is receiving thaiv upwards of a $1,000,000 more is in revenue. This condition pointed out in the govfor a program ol called has he ernors letter and for a report not He asks once. at economy to begin various state depart the 20 from later than February ments. Some time ago. O. Y. Adams, managing director of the Utah State National Hank, and a former banker in Logan, anticipating just such a condition n affairs, and hoping to say something that would call attention to the authorities of what they soon would he called upon to face, suggested that there be a reduction in public expenditures. He was criticized locally for his position. Since the governor has spoken, perhaps those who were so quick to offer their criticism will now he men enough to offer an apology. Members of the Cache county taxpayers have also brought these matters before the governor and various taxing units. Up to date they have met with very little reception except to be abused. Perhaps an apology should be coming from certain quarters to these men who have been working to maintain the financial integrity of the public treasury. Help For Unemployed Hundreds of citizens in Logan arc financially able to give a day or two days work to the unemployed and they have the labor which should he done. The icmoval of snow and ice from roofs of houses and outbuildings should be attended to in many cases or else there is likelihood of the buildings crushing from the ; excessive weight. There are scores of persons who every day are tearing more than a years ordinary wear from their automobiles by attempting to drive them through this deep snow without first having the road cleared of the snow. Some have torn their chains all to pieces already this w'inter. Here is another Way the unemployment situation could be relieved. Give a man with a team and scraper half a days work clearing your road way. This once done, there is little probability it will have to be done again this winter. More w ill be saved on the wear and tear on the automobile than the labor will cost and the man who receives the work will be made happy. . BARBER Auto Parts Co. FIRST CLASS WORK There are always a thousand and' one schemes which come along to attract the hard earned cash ol Cache valley citizens every year. At one time we had a vigilance committee here to advise the public what to buy and what not to buy. It seems that the committee has ceased to function at any rate there ire plenty of schemes that when presented by a trained salesman, carry an attractive side to the unsophisticated. No local investor ever made a dollar out of Mexican rubber; no investor here ever made a dollar out of Wyoming Gebo oil ; little if any money was ever made in Panama sugar; glass casket stock sold here has never brought the investors a dollar. There have been numerous other foreign stocks floated in the valley that have proved worthless. When an investment is made at home the investor can at least see what is being done with his money. There are the Logan Home Iluilding Society and the Northern Building Loan Society, each placing new series of stock on the market. Our banks are in a good healthy financial condition. We recommend these investments to our patrons. Roofs of buildings have accumulated considerable ice on the eves as the result of the thawing weather from time to time throughout the winter. In cases this ice should be removed or damage will be done through the backing up of water which will leak through the shingles into the buildings. Some have already tried to remove the ice with an ax. This practice is damaging to the shingles and will cause them to leak. Those who have tried it, say an ordinary ice pick is the best instrument to use in removing the ice. Lagan Home Bonding Society Annual Stockholders Meeting.
