If the water is not available or the cost is too great we might as well know the facts as soon as possible and cease planning on false expectations. But we should have the facts. At the meeting of the land use committee of the planning board in Duchesne recently, County Agent Carl Davis stated that it would cost $200 per acre to put water on Blue Bench. Clyde Stewart, reporting on the land surveys said there were 13,800 acres of arable Land on Blue Bench. Putting these two figures together, we have a cost of $2,700,000, nearly twice the cost of Moon Lake, the Duchesne river exchange canal, Midview reservoir and lateral and the Yellowstone exchange canal, all put together. Surely no reputable those ever engineer supplied figures to Mr. Davis. Wild guesses and misstatements are not going to solve Duchesne Countys problems. Moves like Mr. Day has taken, if they bring us honest and reliable data, will bring results. He has started in the right direction; we hope he will follow through. Just what the reports will show was not known Air. by Day, but they are expected to contain reliable information as to acreage, feasible irrigation routes and costs of construction. Not until these facts are definitely known can anyone pass final judgment concerning the proper future of Blue Bench. We already have the soil classification facts.
