Park assum- MAN ed the office of President, and under 1 S 6 0, when his efficient direction the institution was soon more fully organized and adapted to the work of normal, scientific, and classical ins! ruction. Along these lines it has progressed by steady and healthy growth until the ptesent time. Every year has seen an increase in its strength. The foregoing brief description of the history and present status of the Agricultural College and the University of Utah has been copied verbatim from their catalogues of 1905 and 1906. It is inserted, for the purpose merely of acquainting those not conversant with the origin and aims of the two State schools. In the prospectus of each school there is not the least hAt that the other school exists, and jet ever since the establishment of the Agricultural College there has been throughout the State a division of opinion regarding the claims of the two institutions for recognition and appropriation. The first time this matter was brought prominently to the attention of the public was in the Constitutional Convention. This Convention, held in Salt Lake City in 1893, made a very thorough examination of the question now before us and many arguments for and against a combination of the two schools were clearly stated. A con- sifjerable number of members, how- ever, had given no special attention to the solution of this problem and so were In favor of leaving it to the coming legislature in order that more time for Investigation might be taken. Professor W. J. Kerr, then president of the Brigham Young College, and Doctor Karl G. Maeser, the only prominent educators in the WHO BUYS AWAY In the Name of Sense, FROM of which all of us have a share, how can you continue to buy ordinary soda crackers, stale and dusty as they must be, when for 5f you can get Likens Mail Order House Bayer to Chinaman Who Keeps Money Here. No The following are a few thoughts from Editor White of the Emporia (Kan.) Gazette. Po well put are his remaiks that no room is left for criticism or improvement: "The man who buys his goods of a mail order house and expects his neighbors in Emporia to buy goods of him, or buy labor of him, or to buy professional service of him is economically a leech. He is sucking Indus trial blood out of the town and ghes none back. He sends his profits out of town like a Chinaman, and has no more right to a standing in the community than a foreigner. We are ail neighbors industrially in this town, and the man who sends away for li is goods is not one of us. He is of another industrial system, and deserves no man's support in Emporia. The fact that this is economicallj wrong is recognized by the mail order houses themselyAs. Only a man who steals is a man who is ashamed to say where he got anything he has. There is such a thing as tainted dry goods, tainted groceries and tainted furniture. All such articles that are not purchased at home, of men who befriend you, of men to whom you owe jour living, are tainted because they come unfairly. If you want the support of your fellow townsmen, and want to accept it without a blush, buy at home whenever possible.
