Special to The Tribune. Sessions on Minin; Market Entirely Devoid of Inter- PIOCHE, Nev., Oct. 21. The Queen of the Hills mine, situated near JHiko, In the Irish mountain district hae recently "been leased by James Wheeler of Pioche. Op orations have already been commenced, est or Worthy Features. The mine, which lies on the southerly elope of Mount Irish, was a famous pro ducer In the early days, when HIko was .the county seat of Lincoln county. After passing through the hands of various owners, ths mins was later acquired and patented by Mr. Greer of Alamo. Interested with Mr. Wheeler In the development of the Queen of the Hills are sev eral other raining men of Pioche. A greater amount of Interest la now be mineral ing taken In thla bearing area than for many years past Prospectors and mining men have latelya been looking over the district with view to acquiring property. In the Silver Prince property, where steady development work has been carried on for several months under the management of R. P. Jones, recent results indicate that a tonnage of profitable ore will be opened up In the near future. Drifting from the level of the mein vertical shaft Is now being done to prospect the ore shoot opened up In the upper levels, Since 1065 but little development has been done In the Irish mountain district. At that time the moat important mines were the Illinote, the Indiana, the Web-- etes end .the. Alameda. The Illinois lode, situated high up on the eastern elope of Mount Irish. Is cut through by a deep canyon, giving an opportunity to examine the vein and to open It by tunnels at a great depth. It crops out boldly, show-to ing an apparent width of from fifteen twenty feet. The vein opened up at aev found to carry ex eral places n cel lent ore The Indiana, on Peter's mountain, has been tapped by tunnel 125 feet In length, giving a depth of 120 feet below the croppings. In this adlti a pay streak of alx feet fn a vein of ten feet between walls hae been struck. Webster, on Raymond mountain, has been developed by a vertical shaft 100 feet In depth. An ore body averaging 40.2 ounces In silver over a wldth of ten feet was exposed; e ore Several shipments of were made from the Alameda to Austin for reduction. Profits of over 1100 per ton are said te have been nfade. More ore was worked at the , Crescent mill, near the mine, which the records show yielded $30 per ton. The big mill at Hlko was burned number of years ago. However, the old site may be used again, although none of the old equipment la fit for use. Smaller mills were built In the early days at Logan and at Crescent. The remains of the old mill and smelter are still to be seen. Sampling of the slag and tailings Indl cate that, although the ore last treated waa only of medium grade, a good saving of the values was effected. Sessions on the Salt Stock and Mining exchange yesterday were entirely devoid of Interesting features. Trading In all lines of securities dropped off. Prices, also, show'ed little variation. Trading in expensive stocks was limited to Tlntio Standard and Cardiff. A total of 1000 shares of Tintie Standard waa traded In at $1.92 14 and ft.SO. Cardiff sold at $1.02 4 for 100 shares. The unexpected levying of an assessment by the Michigan Consolidated Mines company waa the Subject of considerable discussion. The stock, however. held fairly steady at 6!4c for the selling of but' 2000 shares. In point of the number of shares sold. New Quincy, with a total of 9000 shares traded In, was the most active. For the greater part of this activity the price held at 34e. On the sale of the last 3500 tho price, however, receded to a close of Stic, , Silver King Consolidated, with 400 shares sold at 68c, waa the only other Park City issue to respond to the rail. Tin tic stocks were qufet. Eureka Bullion sold at 6c for 1000 shares, Oold Chain at 8c and Sioux at lc, Quotations follow: well-kno- , LISTED STOCK has-bee- Bfufff lo Cob West Demijohn ' Con Emma fUher Empire Mines Pastern Prince ..... ...... ..... ....
