Assessor and Colle'tor The suspension ol the Bank of California and the closing of several other banks would indicate that a panic has reached the coast similar to that caused east by the failure of Jay Coke & C. While the stability of the Bank of Cai fornia wrs. distrusted by many who had a knowledge of its speculations, yet most of the banks of the interior corresponded with it and most of them will lose something by the failure, and the result will be seriously felt at least over the entire coast. The Treasury Department coming to the assistance will avert much of the disaster that would have followed, and it is probable that through this no other failures will take place. It is encouraging to hear that the bank hero will not loe anything by the failure. Although they corresponded with the Bank of California their deposit had been exhausted and mcney was in transit by Wells, Fargo & Co.s Express, which was stopped on the way. Countv Clerk J. 0.
