' Editor Journal: Although the min-in- g interests of this camp have experienced many draw-back-s from the time of its first formation, owing partly to a lack of means on the part of owners and partly to expending what labor was at command in trying to develop the immense copper blossom In the top of the mountain, and in trying to open too many claims at once ; a great change has been made - this Spring, other parties have taken interests here, and are satisfied to develop some of the galena to be found lower down on each side of the mountain. The owners of the Tecoma, a mine already opened, made a contract two or three days ago to furnish 200 tons of ore to the furnace at Truckee. This will out and shipped i n about two weeks. This company is, at the same time, running a tunnel to cut the ledge at a depth of eighty feet, in order to facilitate the taking out of the ore. James Campbell, Division Superintendent of the C. P. R. R., was in camp a few days ago, whfn he secured an interest in a claim owned by Messrs. Wad dill A Andrews, on which he will commence immediately to siuk a shaft 100 feet1 in depth. Messrs. Kirker, Sul livan A Nolan, have got fairly at work, sinking on a very fine prospect, and are taking out beautiful galena which was found in a narrow vein almost at the surface, and is widening very fast as thev go down. They are down but a few feet as yet, but the owners have entire confidence that they have a big lode. This is one of several locations this company own, all of which they intend to have fully prospected in two or three months. Other parties owning claims here are hurrying up preparations to commence work, and not many days will elapse before the pick and drill will be heard on all sides. The close proximity of these mines to the C. P. 11. R.. (from 5 to 6 miles only ) must make them very valuable. M. ' ...... re ! , ; . s., .aUKs' |
