This years contestants include Stacey Brewer, Dawn Boyd, Ronnie Chapman, Linda Hickman, Stacy Jo Holyoak, Monica Torres, Tbsha Wagner, and last but most certainly not least, Elizabeth Whitney. The contestants will be starting off their day with the Horsemanship portion of the pageant beginning at 1 p.m. at The Old Spanish Trail Arena. The public is invited to watch and support the girls at this time, free of charge. Each young lady will perform a reining pattern on horse back, which will be set by the 1997 Canyonlands Rodeo Queen, Danalee Welch. The Horsemanship judges the abilities of the rider and their mount, they are also being judged for the manner in which they present themselves, their horse and the pattern. Throughout the day, contestants will be busy interviewing with each of the judges on their knowledge of tack horse care, knowledge of professional rodeo, current PRCA standings, rodeo terminology and history of the Canyonlands Rodeo. Each contestant must know names ofthe Canyonlands stock contractor, rodeo announcer, rodeo committee president, and especially the dates of the rodeo. All of these items have been donated to the project by local citizens and businesses. The project organizers will be raffling a childs quilt at the Volunteer Week lunch at the Senior Center, tickets are 50 cents or 3 for a dollar.
