Due to the addition of aircraft within the wing and the number of maintenance personal growing to more than 700, the 388th Maintenance Squadron now has enough people to justify splitting the squadron in two, said Capt. John Fountain, future 388th Component Repair Squadron maintenance supervisor. Maj. Andrew Bouck, who is currently assigned to Air Combat Command headquarters at Langley Air Force Base, Va., will command the new component repair squadron. The 388th CRS will be home to the avionics intermediate shop, the engine flight and the accessories flight. Maj. Steven Morani, currently the 34th Fighter Squadron maintenance officer, will command the 388th Equipment Maintenance Squadron. The 388th EMS will be home to the munitions flight, aerospace ground equipment flight, fabrications flight and the arma- ment flight. There shouldnt be any adverse impact as far as supporting the wings mission, said Capt. Rob Bothwell, future 388th EMS maintenance supervisor. The maintenance squadrons transition should be farely transparent to the individual working out on the flightline. To prepare for the squadrons transition, people within the squadron have helped with several self-hel- p projects. Without any addi-tion.- al funding from Air Combat Com- mand or additional buildings, the squadron had to turn closets and storage rooms into 388th Fighter Wing supplement to the Hilltop Times a drastic change accord- ing to Captain Bothwell. Self-hel- p has been a huge project since the beginning of July, agreed Captains Bothwell and Fountain. Crews have worked day in and day out to prepare offices and conference rooms. Smaller squadrons mean the leadership will be able to focus more Excellence is a journey, not a destination Commentary by Col. John Wei da 388th Fighter Wing commander Three weeks have passed since the Air Combat Command Inspector General validated the 388th Fighter Wings combat capability as Excellent. We should be very proud of the results of the operational readiness inspection. Of the 132 areas inspected, 36 received an Outstanding rating, 70 received an Excellent rating, 25 received a Satisfactory rating and only one area received a Marginal rating. Equally impressive was the fact the wing did not receive any findings that In short, we require higher headquarters follow-u- p. watered the IG teams eyes! Each and every one of you who participated in the ORI contributed to the Excellent rating. Whether you were an augmentee in Tent City, manned a UCC, loaded weapons, performed maintenance, or flew the jets, you were a critical member of the team. I have never been so proud to be part of an organization my hat is off to the wing staff, Fuujins, Widows, Raptors, Wizards and the Griffins! Once again you rose to the occasion and performed your missions in great fashion! When you see members of the 729th Air Control Squadron, the 388th Range Squadron, or the 34th Fighter Squadron, thank them for their selfless support of the rest of the wing during the ORI prep and the ORI. The 729th provided several key people and equipment for the ORI. The 388th RANS ensured the availability and safety of the Utah Test and Training Range for the ORI. And the 34th Fighter Squadron provided people, parts and equipment that enabled the other two flying jets to start squadrons to have 8 fully mission-capab- le Rams! the war. Thanks Warriors, RANS, and Thanks again to our partners from the 75th Air Base Wing and the Air Logistics Center. We could not have functioned without their commitment and support.
