Four staffers form an Employment Team that specializes in preparing those looking for work. Larry Dawson, Barbara Ferguson, Jim Mallock and newcomer Beth Wetherell make up the team, which has organized its fourth mini job fair set for Tuesday from 4 p.m. in Bldg. 308N. 1-- The Job Fair is one of the biggest things we have going at the center, said Mallock. It will actually put money in your wallet and food on the table. Especially for people new to the area thats the first thing you need to do is find a job. In its first year, the program has become so popular that employers who want to participate are placed on a waiting list. While this weeks fair is full, another is set for February. Interested employers should contact the Family Support Center. Companies participating in the upcoming fair represent fields including law enforcement, electronics and hydraulics, security, production, the travel industry, trucking, medical professions, computer-base- d positions and the aircraft industry. The team said job fair participants should come prepared to fill out applications and bring important information including employment and education histories as well as any specialized training records. Anyone with access to the base can come but its also a convenience for people who live on base so they need to take advantage of it, said Ferguson. She added the center keeps the fair small because its held in the large classroom, which accommodates about Mini Job Fair Tuesday 1-- 4 p.m. Family Support Center Bldg. 308N Call Ext. 7-46- for more details 81 10 employers. Users can set up an account and access the center between 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. weekdays, except holidays. The Resource Center has several tools that help job seekers fill out fede-m- eral job applications, create resumes and search the local job market. A clipboard is posted with job openings on base and in the area, and theres a quiet area to assemble a resume or fill out a job application and dozens of videos and manuals to ensure job seeking success many available for check-ou- t. There are also several computer tutorials and Internet access for job seekers that want to surf career options. Area civilians who dont have a base identification card Sob seekers can get the same information from one of the states Workforce Services offices or Outside Hire, Bldg. 1221. Mallock suggests people looking for work on base ffot limit their search to federal positions. He said with over 5,000 contract employees on base, there are many positions available with private companies. The center also has links in nearby communities. Ferguson said the center appreciates the rapport it has with local businesses and Utahs Department ofWorkforce Services. She said the communication between the agencies has been valuable for businesses and the employees who now work for them. One of the centers biggest sources of pride is the three-da- y Transition Assistance Program seminar offered several times a month for military personnel contemplating retirement or separation from the Air Force. Seminar services include a video taped mock interview thats critiqued and returned with comments for improvement and a cover letter class. TAPs introduces veteran organization representatives who speak to military personnel and explain benefits as well as review medical records. They illustrate how veterans can give themselves a competitive edge in the federal job market and cover future rights concerning medical benefits. There are also programs specifically designed to help spouses find work, including a weekly Spouse Employment Orientation class. After spouses attend the orientae with Ferguson to discuss tion, they can meet their employment options. Anyone running short on time or unable to sign up for classes can drop their resume off at the center. The resume will be reviewed that day.
