Show 20 HiSKopi October 14, 1999 ' Pe rfect! Tension mounted in the 10th and 11th frames as two more strikes fell by the way side. Just one more was needed for a sanctioned 300. In the 12th and final frame, Lucas says he rolled his usual ball and watched it impact the pocket for the final strike. The house and Lucas' Odd Man Out teammates went crazy. "He just turned and said, 'It's about time,'" recalled Larry Bradsby, a teammate of Lucas' on the Automated Structures team at Davis Lanes. "He got a couple of good breaks, got a seven or ten to kick out on one frame, but the rest were just solid in the pocket." Lucas finished the night with scores of 212, 300 and 235 for a whopping 747 series, proving that the perfect game was no aberration. Lucas began bowling in 1980 where he carried a mere 100 average in the intramural bowling leagues. Over the years, he became enamored of the game and by Steven R. Ford Hilltop Times staff Most bowlers have never done it. Bob Lucas has already done it once before, but on Oct. 5, while bowlold Lucas ing at the base Bowling Center, the did it again, rolling a perfect 300 game. 47-ye- ar "I got lucky," a modest Lucas said of the feat. "I guess I was just in the right place at the right time." On that night, during his second league game and officially sanctioned by both the Ogden Bowlers Association and the American Bowling Congress, the rightoutside-i- n hook had all the magic working. Strike after strike fell in frame after frame, but Lucas insists he didn't know there was anything special about the game until later. An avid bowler carrying a 200 average from three leagues, Lucas says strikes aren't anything new, so it wasn't until about the ninth or tenth frames that he began to think he might just do it. It was at that point that the rest of the house began to take notice. This wasn't just any league night. Something special was happening. According to house assistant Dan Kwasniewski, the entire place stopped what they were doing and watched the father of three go for the perfect game. in Davis County and substitutes for others. Lucas credits the excellent lane conditions and house management at the Hill Bowling Center as being as much responsible for his accomplishment as his practiced bowling stroke.
