Not only must you be qualified in your vocation, but, equally important, you should maintain a strong intellectual grounding in those concepts and principles that make up an Air Force professional member. For civilians, most of this intellectual ground comes from participation in professional military education and through maintaining an active personal, professional military reading program. Air Force PME available to civilians includes the Aerospace Basic Course, Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, Airman Leadership School, Noncommissioned Officer Academy and Senior NCO Academy. Information on PME opportunities is available on the directorate of personnel Web site at http:www.dp.hq.af.milDPdpdetraining and the Air University Web site at http: www.au.af.milau.html. The Educational Programs Cadre, College for Enlisted Professional Military Education, said that, effective May 7, Course 5 materials are no longer on hold. The Extension Course Institute has begun to process course materials for shipment. Enrollees will begin receiving the new software over the next few weeks. A software problem in an updated version of the courseware, released Dec. 6, resulted in courseware installation problems by some students on some computers. To minimize and isolate the problem, the cadre pulled the course from the shelves at ECI 10 days later and placed a hold on the further release of course materials until it could resolve the problem. If you aren't already engaged in a professional military program or want to expand your current program, we recommend you begin with the Air Force Chief of Staff Professional Reading Program at http: www.af .millib csafbookcsafciv.html. Most of the books on the civilian reading list are available for check out at base libraries. Civilians who attend Squadron Officer School receive a set of the basic books from the officer list to support ed cur- riculum requirements. r W M mm " fHk JVi 15 sl 318 BOUNTIFUL ., u i Man : ' X - .
