The Canyonlands Rodeo committee has just received word that Dwayne Hargo, contender for World Champion Pro Rodeo Clown and Bullfighter, will be on hand for the 1988 Canyonlands PRCA Rodeo. Rodeo performances are scheduled fra 8 p.m. June 23, 24 and 25th at the Grand County Equestrian Center. Dwayne Hargo began his bullfighting career at the early age of 15. Dwayne quickly learned all aspects of the rodeo as he spent much of his youth working for, and living with stock contractors. Dwayne, however, was unsatisfied with the regular competitive events of the rodeo. Instead, he chose to pursue a profession as a bullfighter and clown. According to Dwayne, there is no more gratifying feeling than the simple "thank you" from a fallen bullrider saved from a "hookin", or the cheers form the crowd during a freestyle bullfight, or the laughter of a child while performing a bucking, kicking impersonation of a hone. When it comes to bullfighting, Dwayne is among the best. Currently in his third year on the Wrangler Jeans Bullfight Tour, this young man is anxious to make 1988 his year. With sixteen bullfighters competing on the tour, only the top six make the National Finals Rodeo in December; only ONE walks away with the title, "World Champion." Dwayne is determined to be that champion. The 1988 Canyonlands PRCA Rodeo will feature stock provided by Micky Young's Silver Lining Rodeo Company and will include performances by world famous trick roper Montie Montana. The also expect an appearance by 3 time world champion Lewis Feild, who will compete in the rodeo. Feild, is a Utah resident, hailing from Elk Ridge, Utah, and was the All Around Champion three years running at the National Finals Rodeo. With 1987 winnings of $144,335, he was $30,000 ahead of the second place finisher. The Canyonlands PRCA Rodeo is part of Butch Cassidy Days in Moab, which will include the grand opening of the Stuntmens Hall of Fame, a Mountain Man Rendezvous, parades, Hollywood stars, barbeques, and much more. Rodeo sponsors include Ford, Moab TraveLodge, City Market, Coca Cola, Golden Stake Restaurant, and Coors. Welcome and remarks were given by the Honorable Norman H. Bangerter Governor of Utah, and Honorable Palmer DePaulis, Mayor of Salt Lake City. Tributes and reflections were given by Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Sister M.
