Truck carrying propane overturns on interstate By TOM McHOES The Daily Herald LEHI Several homes were evacuated and a stretch of Interstate 15 was closed for nearly five hours Monday after a propane fuel tanker overturned on an exit ramp. The rig, which was carrying approximately 1,500 gallons of propane, turned on its side and caught fire on a southbound ramp shortly before 2 p.m., emergency officials said. Firefighters and hazardous materials specialists were quickly able to extinguish the small fire and ile shut off the valves to the tanks. A delivery hose to one of the tanks had caught fire as a result of the accident, said Karl Zimmerman, chief of the Lehi Police Department The AmeriGas company truck overturned after Tevita P. Tangulu of West the driver, Valley City, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road, Zimmerman said. When Tavulu tried to steer the tanker back onto the ramp, he overcorrected, which caused the truck to tip over. Tavulu, who was not injured in the accident, was cited for unsafe lane travel. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred at mile marker 285 near 1 870 North and 1400 West in Lehi.
