Show THE HERALD, Provo, Utah, Page C8 Wednesday, April 22, lit 1992 fl uest violinist - Musical to feature Butch, Sundance Oliveira boasts credentials SALT LAKE CITY Friday and Saturday, Utah Symphony audiences will have the opportunity to be part of a "first," the world premiere of a violin concerto by composer Joan Tower. which are equally as impressive. In 1978, he became the first American violinist to win the coveted Tchaikovsky Competition Gold Medal and the first violinist to win the Avery Fisher award. In addition to the world premiere, Oliver-ir- a will also play the beautiful "Poeme" by Chausson. Maestro Joseph Silverstein will conduct this concert which also features Haydn's Symphony No. 92 and Sibelius' Symphony No. 5. Silverstein will give a lecture each evening at 7:15 p.m. The works on the program will be discussed to help concert patrons better understand and enjoy the evening's music. The concerts will begin at 8 p.m. in Symphony Hall. Tickets are $ 0 to $30 at the Utah SymphoStudent ny box office, tickets are $5. Violinist Elmar Oliveira, who has performed regularly with the Symphony, will perform this new and innovative work, which was commissioned by the Snowbird Institute and the Barlow Foundation at Brigham Young University.
