"I was really proud of our swimmers," said BYU Coach Tim Powers. "We fought back instead of giving up." The BYU divers also played a key role in the Cougar victory. Rebel swimmers won seven of the meet's 11 swimming events, but BYU divers finished 2 in both diving events to secure the meet victory. BYU diver Terry Griffith, the reigning WAC champ, won 1-- the title over teammate Darron Nelson. The two divers reversed positions in the competition with Nelson placing first and Grif- fith second. Cougar Kurt Dickson proved to be the "ironman" swimmer for the BYU team. Dickson captured two individual events (100 and 500 free). freeWinning the style relay clinched the win for the Cougar swimmers. Dickson swam the anchor position on the winning relay team only six minutes after he had won the freestyle event.
